Carson-Phoenix`s birthstory
I was scheduled to be induced on Thursday, November 13th at 6am. I was very anxious the night before but exhausted for getting ready for baby. I got up at 4:30am with plans to leave the house at 5:30am. Well, at 5:00am the hospital called to tell me that all the beds were full and that they would call me at 8am for an update. I was so upset!! How could I ever fall back to sleep.
I laid back down and dozed off. The hospital called back at 8am and said they had a bed ready and for me to come. I drove to Central Baptist Hospital and arrived at 9am. We grabbed our bags and went to the Labor and Delivery Hall. I walked up the receptionist to check in and she said, `while you were on your way up here two girls came up from the ER so we don`t have any beds open. But you can wait in the waiting room!!!`
I thought I would never get to have this baby! Plus I hadn`t been able to eat since 12am. We sat in the waiting room for two hours before they finally had a room available. I got settled into the room and dressed in my hospital gown. I was so nervous.
They took blood work, hooked my IV up and began feeding me Pitocin. My doctor came down and checked me saying I was 3cm dilated. He then broke my bag of water.
That was an experience in itself! Tons of fluid just came pouring from me that was uncontrollable. It was embarrassing because it was like peeing all over yourself and now being able to do anything about it.
I had to get up to pee and Kenny wheeled my IV behind me. As I was getting back up from the toilet more amniotic fluid gushed out.. I had to open my legs like I was peeing in the woods and let it pour out (that or go down my legs). I am so glad that I have such a great guy because he grabbed a paper towel and wiped off my legs. I got back in the bed and put on the make-shift diaper. I must`ve soaked at least four of them!
I started to feel the contractions so they game me Staddol. I recommend for everyone else NOT to take it. It didn`t relieve the pain I was feeling all in my back just made me EXTREMELY loopy. I couldn`t even open my eyes for a good thirty minutes; I was seeing double.
After a hour I could focus my eyes and watch all the people eat Fazollis. YUM!
Every half hour they come in and up'd my Pitocin. Then out of the blue I had horrible shooting pains all up my back and my stomach would tighten. It was the worst feeling I`ve ever experienced. They came in and gave me the Epidural, which was the best thing in the WORLD.
Some people might have doubts or concerns but I was in extreme pain and barely felt the Epi get inserted. I felt a pinch and some other jerking but other than that it was great! It took a second to kick in and once it did I was relieved that I had gotten it done. It wasn't scary like I had expected.
Well my obgyn came in and checked me right after and said that I was still only 4cm dilated and that he thought I would go into labor five hours from then. The time was 7pm.
People have told me that the Epidural slows down the progress of labor but it did the opposite for me.
I had some visitors come in and sit and talk for a couple of minutes and then went downstairs to eat. In that time I keep having the feeling that I was going to poop on myself. LOL! I know it sounds horrible but I swear I thought I was going to. So I finally said something out loud. My mother and my sister where in also in the room with Kenny and I. My mother asked if it was pressure. I just kept saying it felt like I had to poop. She went out and got the nurse and she came in to check me and I as 10cm dilated and the baby was coming out!!!!!
Eleven pushes and he was out! But the worst thing was my doctor had went home so they handed the buck to another doctor. I was crowning when I told my mother I had to poop, that was all the pressure I was feeling.
But, the doctor made me sit like that while she did who knows what and decided to join us 15 minutes later! I seriously thought the nurses were going to deliver my baby. At one point they said, no more pushing or coughing until the doctor comes in!! I`m thinking `where is she!!!!!???`
But eventually she came in and I pushed him right out. They put him on my chest as I had requested and Kenny cut the cord! It was the most amazing thing I`ve ever experienced. Before I knew it I had a baby laying on my stomach..and he was perfect; ten fingers, ten toes, perfect score on the APGAR.. I was in love.
The first thing I said/did: cried.
First person to hold him: me on my stomach and then his daddy Kenny.
First diaper change: me
It was an amazing experience. I didn`t poop on myself like I thought I was going to! :) and I only tore in one little tiny spot, one stitch! And I would never have known if my doctor didn't tell me. You think horrible things when people say they tore but you are so knumb you can't feel anything. Plus when you see this beautiful creation that only you could have made everything instantly leaves your thoughts and you are fully directed on your baby..
It is so surreal that now he is here, first night home. I am in awe and blessed to have such a wonderful healthy baby with me!
Thank you God for all my gifts.
