Hazel-Rae`s birthstory

On my due date, I went in to the hospital to have cervidil inserted. I was 2 cm dilated and 50 percent effaced. It was given to me at approx. 5 pm on the 19th... A few hours later, I felt some mild cramping and my back was cramping up a little)... Around 10 pm.. I told the nurse that I really was feeling like I needed to go to the bathroom, but I couldn`t go-- She decided to check me-- At that point, I was still only about 2 cm, but she said she thought my cervix was softer. A lot of what went on next was a blur... You`ll understand why in a second-- The nurses convinced me to take an Ambien-- then when I still didn`t fall asleep-- a pain pill to `get some rest before I really went into labor`.... So I did-- At some point in the night the nurse also removed the cervidil (per my doctor b/c I had so much cramping)-- and said that we would `just start pitocin in the morning...` Well-- I went into labor on my own..... Neither the Ambien nor the pain pill put me to sleep. Every time I almost fell asleep I`d have a contraction and I was wide awake. Finally the nurse decided to check me again.. (They didn`t think I could possibly be in full blown labor b/c it was my first baby...) It was now around 330 or 4 am-- She said `Oh my goodness- you`re doing really well- You`re actually around 5 or 6 cm-- I need to call the doctor.
So now what goes through my head-- Epidural- Will it be too late? They ended up having to call in the anesthesiologist as well... The doctor was there-- still no anesthesiologist. Now he checks me. 8 cm.
Ladies- I still got my epidural. Thank God! I can reassure you that it did NOT slow down my labor. I got it at about 5:10...the doctor broke my water at 5:20.. My beautiful baby girl was born at 6:33 am.... Thanks for reading!!!
