Type of Birth: Vaginal (without pain relief)
Length of Labour: 6 hours (from first contractions after being induced)

Jonah's Birth Story:

I ended up having to be induced, but the night before the induction
they checked me into the hospital and inserted a balloon to help me dilate. I dilated
four cms that night and a midwife at the hospital got me to five cms in the morning
so before the induction started I was already half way there. They put me on the IV
with the inducing meds (no idea what they were since it was all in Japanese) at 8:30am
and around 10am I started feeling weak contractions. Things got intense pretty quickly,
I'm assuming because of the induction medicine and by early afternoon (lost track of
time) I was put in the delivery room and was in transition. I was happy they let my
water break on its own (around 8cms) and that the doctor catered to my wishes not to
have an episiotomy. I did tear but didn't feel it at all when it happened and have
experienced no discomfort because of it afterwards either. I think I pushed for just over an
hour (and remember wondering how some women could push out a baby in ten minutes!) My
favourite parts of labour were slow dancing through weaker contractions
with my husband at the beginning and feeling my son come out of me at the end
(very satisfying after all that pushing).
