Ted-Victor-II`s birthstory

On Tuesday, December 10, my water broke at 11am. At first it was just a few squirts but then it kept gushing and gushing. The first few squirts was pinkish so I knew it was my water. We get to the hospital about 12 and got checked. Right away I was put in labor and delivery as they knew my history. To every ones surprise, I had no contractions. Doc decided to push some pitocin to see if that would jump start contractions AND change the cervix. Well, as my luck would have it, we eventually got up to 20 ml/hr of the pitocin and my cervix had not changed and I was very posterior. The contraction hurt like heck as well as the cervix checks. The on call Dr. decided to stop the pitocin for the night and give my body a break and restart it tomorrow. This would also allow me to eat...I had 30 minutes but had DH run out and grab a bunch of food. Eventually I fell asleep, although it was not a very good sleep as I was still having a few painful contractions left over from the pitocin. Well, it wasn`t until 8am that I saw the doc........THis was a new Dr. and he doesn`t like to push pitocin too much or too quick so at first it was a slow process..I was begging for the dose to be upped cuz my cervix was doing no further change and was very posterior still......well, the midwife in my docs office too over my care (My Dr. was on vacation this week). The midwife knew we needed to get some progress going on as we were approaching 24 hour since Premature rupture of the membranes, I asked constantly for an up in the speed the pitocin was pumped into me and eventually we were up to 30 ml/hr. Wow, did this hurt......I won`t lie...this was one of the most painful experiences I have ever been through. I did have a doula who helped me focus/breathe through the pain. In the beginning she had me to squats and the birthing ball but that was ruled out way in the beginning due to little Teddys H/R critically low dropping during a contraction . So on the bed it was. Toward the end I did the hands/knees thing to where I was pretty much on my knees on the bed with my arm over the top of the bed which was kind of elevated a bit When a contraction came I would lean back and sit on my heels in a kneeling position kind of. Around 4:45 the nurse checked my cervix and Little Teddy`s head was right there. It was time to push and I really didn`t he was right there. I felt the pressure but I was more worried about the pain ripping through my pubic bone. Neonatal guys come running down, the on-call do and a bunch more other. Within seconds my legs were high up resting in stirrups and my doula was telling me time to push and asked me if I knew the proper way.........well, of course I did. I was told to push during that contraction and by golly I did not stop pushing!!!!! My little man was delivered in one big push!!!! He let out a small cry as he came out and right after DH cut the umbilical cord the baby nurses snatched him up and checked him over. At this point he was screaming like crazy which was a good thing. They put him in an isolette and wheeled him over so I could see him. All I could do was kind of hold his fingers and he was then wheeled off to the NICU. about 6:30 pm the antenatal doc came by and said baby Teddy`s lungs looked ok, had a bit of fluid in them but that was normal for a baby his age. There was no bleeding in head or abdominal area and his heart looked really well. He told us we could come to the NICU and hold him and breastfeed him around 7:30. Well, we did not make it to see him until 9:30 as I had to wait to get settled in a room and get checked in myself. When we got up there, we were told he had to be put on CPAP and that we were unable to hold/feed him. Hopefully all goes well tonight he will be great and be off the CPAP in breathing on his own and if he does really well, he may be able to come home this weekend.!!!!!!

Victoria-Frances`s birthstory

On Wednesday Dec. 8th I went into L&D with contractions 2 minutes apart. I was given a shot of terbutaline to stop the contraction since I was only 34 weeks pregnant. The shot worked and I was sent home. Of Friday, Dec. 10th contractions started again at 4pm. They were 2 minutes apart and very strong. I waited it out at home because I knew they would stop contractions if I went in too early. At 11pm my water broke with a huge gush...I woke DH up and we finished packing our bags with last minute stuff. We also had to get our 2 year old dressed so we could drop him off at a friends.
I got checked in at L&D at 12:30. 2 other women were checking in, one just had contractions and the other one her water broke and she had no contractions. Since I was pre-term and have had previous children I skipped triage and was taken straight to a deliver room. The Dr. did not bother doing a pelvic exam. I asked him if he knew what position Victoria was in as each time I had an ultrasound she was in a different position. One week she was breech and the next she was head down. I am glad I said something to him because when he did an ultrasound he couldn`t find her head. The nurse helped him and her head was in my right pelvic area, her back was on my cervix and she was facing up. I was told a c-section was necessary due to her position. Normally they would try to manipulate baby into a head down position but since I I was pre-term and due to her position doing so could cause the cord to come out of the cervix. I was quickly briefed by the Obstetrician and the anesthesiologist and signed all the releases. Before I knew it, I was in the OR. Normally they do a low horizontal cut on the uterus but they had to do an upside down T cut, which means no more kids for me due to risk of uterine rupture. At 0242 Victoria was born. She was screaming so loud, which meant her lungs were nice and healthy. Her apgar scores were 9/9 which is great for her being born pre-term. DH went with Victoria to the NICU while they stitched me up. She had/has no breathing or heart problems. She is getting tube and bottle feedings. She just needs to get to where she can solely be on the bottle. They are expecting her to be home by the end of the week. I got discharged from the hospital on Monday Dec. 13th. We will be going to the NICU ever 3 hours to do her feedings.
I have never had to have a c-section before and just my luck, my last pregnancy and last baby I needed one. I don`t understand the ladies who would rather have a c-section over vaginal birth. I am so so sore! A day after the section my feet and legs started swelling up. If you just saw my feet you would think I weighed 300 lbs. I was told this is normal and it is from all the fluid they pump into you before and during the section. Eventually it will work its way up into the kidneys and flush out of my body. The Doc said it will get worse before it gets better, I don`t see how I can get any more swollen than I am.

This has been on trying pregnancy but I thank God for getting me as far as he did. I had never made it past 32 weeks with my 3 previous pregnancies but did this time. Victoria is such an angel and I can`t wait until I can finally bring her home.
