Julianna-Marie`s birthstory

I woke up Sunday morning with mild period cramps, but stronger than usual, at 11:30 a.m. I noticed that they were coming about every 10 minutes, but didn`t think anything of it. Everyone was telling me that `real` contractions are felt across your stomach and higher up, so I didn`t think that`s what they were. So, I asked my mom what she thought, and she told me to start recording the time of each `cramp` because she was pretty sure they were contractions. So, I started timing them around 4:00 p.m., and I noticed they were getting more intense and closer together. I went to the bathroom to pee, and noticed I was bleeding, so I called my doc and they told me to come in because it sounded like I was in labor. When I got there, the nurse did an internal and said I was still barely 1 cm, NOT effaced at all, and the baby`s head still hadn`t dropped...very disappointing news. They hooked me up to an IV to give me some fluids because they said I was dehydrated, which can bring on contractions. They monitored me to see if this would stop the contractions. But they were becoming more intense and more frequent. About an hour after getting there, the doc suggested that I walk around for a little bit to see if that would help dilate me (and to see if I really was in labor or if it was just from dehydration). If that`s all it was, then they were sending me home. Well, I walked around for about a half an hour, which was pretty difficult because the contractions were starting to get too painful. The nurse brought me back in the room to do another internal and see if anything changed. Well, when she checked me, I had already dilated to 6 cm., was 80% effaced, and the baby had dropped completely - all after only a half an hour of walking!! She looked at me and said `You`re definitely in labor and you`re obviously not going home tonight!!` The GREATEST news I`ve ever heard!! LOL! Well, thinking I would take after my mother and grandmother, we were all expecting this baby to come within the next couple hours, especially since things seemed to be moving along so quickly. At about 2:00 a.m. I was checked again. I dilated to 8 cm, and as she was checking me, my water broke!! At this point, the contractions were UNBEARABLE and I was given an epidural. The pain was gone, but now I couldn`t tell when to push or how hard I was pushing. So they decreased the levels of the epidural a bit so I could push. I was getting absolutely nowhere and couldn`t stand the pain, once again, so they gave me more of the epidural. This went on until about 9:00 a.m., and I was giving higher levels of epidural. The baby`s head began to crown, but she just didn`t want to come out. My doc finally walked in around 10:15 a.m. and said that he would try vacuuming her out, and if that didn`t work, we would have to do an emergency C-section. I was totally exhausted at this point after over 8 hours of pushing and getting nowhere that thought of a C-section actually sounded like the BEST idea ever! Well, after 20 minutes more of pushing, along with the vacuum suction, Julianna Marie was FINALLY born at 10:40 a.m., healthy as can be!!! She weighed in at 6 lbs 11 oz, and was 20 1/2 in. long! It took a few days for her little head to lose its `cone-shaped` appearance. But she`s a full 8 days old now and doing absolutely wonderful!! I`m so thankful...she`s just perfect. I love her to death and I love being a mommy. I`d do it all over again!!
