Trent Joseph Sex: boy Born: 09 August, 2008 Age: 0 years & 21 days Birthday in: 344 days Starsign: Leo Development: See the 0 months page. Biggest achievement so far: - stable enough to be moved to a level 2 hospital closer to home (YAY!) |
August 8th:
- went for my regularly scheduled prenatal appointment. Doc said that my urine was still showing signs that I probably still had a UTI and he wanted me to leave him another sample before leaving the office so he could send it off to the lab. ***there was no internal exam or anything*** From palpating my tummy and taking fundal measurements doc said that baby was measuring good and felt like he was laying sideways (prosterier? head on the left side of belly button - not head down yet)
- As I was getting up off the exam table to give another urine sample before leaving the office (and off to get my hair cut and then to the new batman movie) I suddenly felt like my bladder let go of a little gush. Embarrassed I announce to Shawn and the doc "umm, I think I just pee'd my pants". But it didn't stop - with every breath, laugh, sigh, sentence, the gushing continued to soak me and the table.
- Doc came back into the room to check and immediately sent me to the hospital. He said he was almost 100% certain that my membrain had ruptured but he didn't want to risk infection by doing an internal or anything.
- Ran home to change my soaking pants and grabbed some stuff to take to the hospital - in my panic I grabbed 3 tank tops and a pair of pink socks, that's it!
- At the hospital the tested some of the fluid I was leaking and confirmed it was my waters. Since I was only 31w3d they sent me by ambulance to a bigger hospital that is more equipped to deal with such a little baby.
- I felt my first contraction in the ambulance, but it was very weak and felt more like baby was sitting on my bladder. By 7pm (an hour after I got to the hospital) my contractions were more noticable, but didn't really hurt or anything - just more pressure - I was 2cm dialated. By 10pm the contractions were way more intense, coming every 4-6 minutes and I was 6cm dialated. Now the reality of everything is starting to hit me that I will be definately having my baby soon and this isn't just a dress rehersal!
- I got my epidural around 11:30pm and by midnight I was 8cm dialated (By the way ladies - epidural is your best friend!!!)
August 9th:
- The docs decided that I shouldn't deliver in the labour and delivery room - they wanted to be able to assess Trent as soon as he was out. At 2:15 everyone put on their scrubs and we headed to a operating room.
- I pushed for the first time around 2:30. Trent's poor little head was banging around down there for a bit - it was the most uncomfortable part of the labour in my opinion - the amount of pressure of him moving down on his own.
- At 3:32am, after a total of 5 pushes (sets of 3 pushes per contraction then a little rest), Trent slipped into this world and was quite upset that this side of the uterus is much colder than his. They delayed cutting his cord by 60 seconds and he cried on his own. They wisked him away to assess him while I was getting a small tear stiched up. Before they took him up to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) he was brought back to me and I held him for 1 minute.
- Shawn went up to NICU with him and apparently he pee'd 3 times on the nurses on the way there! (haha!)
