Khalil-Thomas`s birthstory
Tuesday November 6th I went for my 38 week check with my OB. During that visit he did an internal exam, which showed I lost my mucous plug and I was effaced and 2 cm dialated. We did an NST which was normal and he ordered a sonogram. When he did the sono he said my water was normal but on the low side. He didn`t want me to wait any longer. He said he would induce my labor the next day @ 5pm. Needless to say I informed everyone in my family. My children and hubby were so excited. It was almost hard to believe that we would be meeting our new baby in a matter of hours! Wednesday November 7th, my hubby, my mom, my mother in law and I showed up @ the hospital @ 5pm. Yes, I had an audience! LOL! We got to my birthing room, I got changed and hooked up to the monitor and got my IV, the Dr. came in @ about 6pm and started the induction. There are 2 parts to an induction, first they insert a medicine called cervadil to soften the cervix. That has to stay in for 10-12 hours. Then after that is taken out, the pitocin is started to bring on labor through the IV. He inserted the cervadil @ around 6:30. It looked like a piece of trident gum attached to a string! LOL! It was very uncomfortable @ first, then we just sat back and waited. The Dr. said being that I was already dialated and my cervix was effaced that there was a chance that I could go into labor on my own, so he gave the nurse orders to remove it if I stared to contract too much. My mom and mother in law left @ around 11pm. Nothing was happening. Antibiotics were started @ around 12am for the GBS that I was positive for. My hubby and I decided to go to sleep. Then @ about 2 am I woke up with contractions and they were getting worse by the minute, and more frequent. The nurse took it out @ about 2:15am and wanted me to get some rest before the second part of the induction was to be started @ 6am, but the contractions didn`t stop. @ 2:30am my water broke on its own as I was in agony...lol, then I knew there was no stopping now. My hubby called my mom in law and my mom, they got there @ 3am. The Dr. was paged and he got there @ 3:15am. I had heard he had quite a few patients that were admitted that night and another lady had been in labor for a few hours before me and she needed an emergency c-section. That scared me because I was ready to go!! Just as he was about to scrub in I went into full force. I had no time for pain meds, everything went by so quickly ( Thank God! ) I really didn`t have intentions of getting any pain meds anyway. I wanted to be alert, and I never wanted an epidural. Working in the medical field, I had seen quite a few women have complications due to the epidural, and with my luck I would have been one of them! I pushed with all my might and my son was finally born @ 3:50am! It was very painful, he tore me. My hubby cut the cord and it splattered all over his shirt and the ceiling. The baby cried as soon as he came out. It was amazing. Yeah I have 2 other kids, but its like the very first time with each one of them. The whole experience is truley amazing! I enjoyed every moment of it, including the pain, cause @ the end its all worth it!!!
