Dorothy`s birthstory

The morning of 2/12/08 I woke up really needing to pee. I just remember swinging my legs on the side of the bed at 7:15am thinking today is going to be the day (mother`s instinct). I got out of the bed and walked to the bathroom as soon as I stepped foot into the bathroom and felt a gush of warm water. I looked and it was clear fluid with blood. I woke my husband up calmly and told him that my water broke and we need to get to the hospital as soon as possible. My husband jumped up and was running around the house with his head cut off...LOL. It was like the scene from the movie `She`s having a baby` you know the part when the woman says calmly `it`s time` and Kevin Bacon runs around with the bags, runs out the door into the car and leaves here there. Anyway, I told my husband I think we better call an ambulance, by then my contractions were coming 5 minutes apart and I knew we wouldn`t make it to the hospital in time (this is my 5th and each one gets shorter each time). So, I called 911 and stayed on the phone with the dispatcher until the EMTs showed up. When EMTs got to the house they were amazed at how calm I was and couldn`t belive that I was actually in labor. They got me into the ambulance and as soon as the IV was put in, we were gone with lights and sirens. My contractions went from 5 minutes apart to 3-4 minutes apart in a short ride of 10 minutes to the hospital. By the time we got to the hospital, my contractions were about 2 minutes apart and last a minute and a half. When the nurse checked me I was 7-8cm dialated with another bulging bag :0. Come to find out that I had 2 bags of waters, the first one broke was clear and the second one had a lot of meconium. Of course on the second bag the doctor had to rupture them, I told him that once he broke my water that it was going to take only a few minutes and it will be over with. I don`t think that the doctor thought I knew what I was talking about because within 3 minutes I was having to hold the baby in and not push while they had to page him 4 times. He finally came in and it was time to push, I pushed as hard as I could about 4 times in one contraction to get the baby`s head out. Finally when the second contraction came I was able to push her head out fully. Once her head came out, one shoulder came and then the rest of the body followed. I did all of 10 minutes of pushing and she was out. The doctor was shocked at the fact that her head was perfectly round and was not molded at all. I guess not, she wasn`t in the birth cannal long enough to mold. I was at the hospital at 8:15am and she was out at 8:45am. Talk about cutting it close to delivery. She was perfect (even with meconium). She weighed in at 8lbs 7oz and 20 1/2inches long. I am soooo happy that she is finally here and we can all get adjusted to having her in our family and getting our other children used to having another sibling.
