Birth details
Type of delivery: Vaginal (with pain relief)
Duration of labor: 16 hrs
Weight @ birth: 8lbs 2oz
Length @ birth: 20 1/4
My labor started with my trip for my 39th week check up with my OB. An u/s was done to check fluid levels and at that time there was concern that the amniotic fluid looked hazy. This could mean that meconium was passed and there would be concern that the baby was under some type of distress, although the non-stress test showed a healthy baby. My doc, Dr. Kirstin Lee, discussed with Larry and I the potential need for induction. We could induce or wait and monitor baby closely with kicks and all. We talked about it and without much hesitation, said let's induce. After all this time and worry, let's not chance it. So I came into the hospital that night at 6:30 pm, on 5/7/08 to be induced. Since Luke was still not dropped at all, he was still floating, my doctor anticipated a lengthy induction, so it was recommended that I come the night before, have the cervigel ?sp, placed intravaginally to help soften my cervix and hopefully labor would start. I was on bedrest for 2 hrs, then only up to use bathroom. Some mild cramping, but nothing much, and I sent Larry home to get some sleep in preparation for baby boy the next day. Larry was back at about 6 am, and at 7 am my Pitocin gtt was started. My nurse had checked me prior, and thought that maybe I was 1 cm dilated. My doctor checked me about an hour later and said, NO dilation, and baby was still at negative 3 station. To make a long story short, I made it till about 2pm before getting my epidural. At this time I was 5cm dilated and baby was still neg 3 but my contractions were pretty hard and I was having trouble getting through them at this point with all my focused breathing and all. Larry was helping me with breathing. The baby was having intermittent decelerations but nothing significant and recovered quickly.
