well what can I say, she’s here and we are so happy. Eden arrived 2 days early, the day after my 33rd birthday!!
my contractions started on Tuesday 2nd june at 2.20pm, so i had a bath, to try and ease them and an hour later we decided we had better go to the hospital as it is about a 30 minute drive away. i really didn’t think we would make it as they were so strong, and for part of the drive we were stuck behind a slow van, typical!!
we arrived about 4.15 and i couldn’t actually walk so Dean got me a wheelchair and whizzed me along to the labour ward, they took me straight into a delivery room. i went straight onto the gas and air, which really helped, i didn’t want anything else.
i was internally examined and i was 7cm dilated already. my waters were still intact as well. i was on the CTG monitor and every time i had a contraction the baby’s heart beat was dropping, but going back up when the contraction had finished.
by the time i had the urge to push the baby’s heart rate was below 60bmp and not going back up, i was asked to roll on my left hand side and try pushing like that, which is not easy, and when that didn’t work they hit the emergency buzzer and a team of 7 doctors, midwives, registrar's etc came running into the room. Dean was watching the CTG machine the whole time and when the heart beat went down to 20bpm they switched it off because they realised he was watching. i wasn’t, at this point to aware of what was going on, i was just focusing on dean, who was distracting me from what was going on, bless him, i couldn’t of done it i if had realised the extent of what was going on. they quickly transformed the bed and had my legs up in stirrups, anyway the attached a ventouse to the baby’s head and managed to get her out, she was laid on my tummy for a split second before being taken off to recuss. Dean went to and he said they were the worst few seconds of his life as they sorted her out, she was blue grey colour.
when he came in, with a little bundle wrapped in blankets, he was in total shock, i still didn’t really know what had happened.
It was incredibly emotional and a real experience.
But she’s here now and she’s so beautiful, she’s well and healthy and we are spending every spare minute looking at Eden and thinking how lucky we are !!!
