The birth story:
It was Thursday May 22 11:58pm. I woke up after having a dream that I was running really fast. My heart was racing when I woke up. I went to the bathroom and upon climbing back into bed, I felt a "pop" and a little bit of liquid come out of me. I thought to myself, "did I just pee myself?" And then I felt more liquid running down my leg. I ran back to the bathroom and sat on the toilet. More liquid came out. I tried to stop it and see if it was urine, but it wouldn't stop and kept coming. Gary had been working on a grad school paper and I called his name. Later on, he told me when he heard the way I called his name, he knew something was going on. He came into the bathroom and I said, "I think my water broke." He said, "Are you sure?" I wiped myself and there was bloody show. I was like, "yep, my water broke!" I told him to call the hospital and they said to come in. I was just sitting on the toilet because fluid would come out everytime I would stand up. I couldn't believe this was happening. I was 38 weeks. I had a feeling the baby would come out early but I just never thought it would happen so fast. Earlier on that day, I had been to the doctor for a prescription for posion sumac. I had it all over my face and on my bottom. My eye was hugely swollen and I thought, I didn't want it to happen with my face all swollen. All my pictures with the new baby would be horrible! Oh well, it was happening. No matter how prepared I was (I had the bag packed since 32 weeks), I was still running around the house trying to think of stuff we needed. Plus I kept running to the toilet because I kept leaking. I must have changed pants and pads three times before I was like, fine, I will just wear dark pants and let it look like i peed myself. We got into the car and we both couldn't believe it was happening. I texted a couple of friends and called my mom and sister and told them what was going on.
We got to the hospital (about a 10 minute drive) and we got checked in and I changed to the hospital gown. We were greeted by a great nurse named Sarah. She was awesome and so friendly! She checked me out, confirmed it was my water breaking and called my OB. Gary and I were both exhausted because we hadn't gotten much sleep (I had only gotten about an hour and Gary had been just about to go to bed when I called him into the bathroom). We decided to sleep for awhile and around 4am I woke up and began walking around to try to get things going. No big contractions (nurse said I was having small ones and I couldn't feel them) or dialition yet. I got out my Ipod and started grooving to music in the labor room while Gary caught some zzzs.
At about 6 in the morning, nothing had occured yet and Sarah had said my OB would start pitocin around 8am if nothing had started. I was still really tired so I tried to go back to sleep until then because I knew the next day was going to be a long one. Meanwhile, I was still so itchy!!!
Pitocin started and contractions began. My goal was to go through the labor naturally, if possible. The contractions were tolerable for the first five hours or so and then they got really bad. Gary was the best coach. He was constantly there rubbing my back and giving me great support the whole time. Turns out my contractions were all in my back. It felt like killer back menstual cramps. I had been feeling those for a couple of week and I thought they were Braxton Hicks, but turns out they were contractions the whole time. man, were they painful. I breathed through them and had my music but I was not dialating quickly at all. By midday I was 3 cm and then by about 10:00pm I was about 7cm. It was a slow process and very painful. We were watching the clock because at midnight it would have been 24 hours since my water broke and there was a danger of infection to the baby if she wasn't born soon after that. They kept increasing my pitocin and ended up giving the baby antibotics to prevent infection. At about 11pm I was fully dialated and the pain was intolerable. I told Gary that I couldn't do it anymore and I ended up getting IVmeds to help with the pain. It helped dull the pain a little and the contractions became semi-tolerable again. The nurse then said I could start pushing. The baby was still at station -1 and pushing might help the baby engage more. After two hours of pushing (really hard by the way- but the contrations felt so much better when I was pushing) she was only at station 0 and the the OB started talking about a c-section. I was like, hey that is fine. I was exhausted and in a lot of pain. Gary got dressed up and they got me ready to go to the OR. This was around 2:30am. they took me in and attempted to give me an epidural 3 times. My spine was too stiff from all the back labor I had been having and they couldn't get the epidural in. They said they had to knock me out, and I was fine with that because I was still having painful contractions and I didn't want an epidural anyway.
Isabella Simone was born at 3:19am. I told the doctors I wanted my husband to tell me the gender of the baby before I got knocked out and I woke up at about 4:30am. I asked if the baby was fine and they said everything had gone well. I wanted to know where Gary and the baby were and they wheeled me into my room. I keep asking questions about the baby and the nurses asked me to stop because they were afraid they would give away the sex of the baby by answering them. Gary walked into the room and told me it was a girl. I was just crying and crying and dying to see her. He said they were finishing her bath and then he brought her in to me. She was so beautiful. Yes, she was worth all the pain, but that pain was something I won't forget anytime soon.

Finally getting to write my birth story three weeks later! Currently both kids are asleep which is a rareity=).
Dec 2 we went into the hospital to prepare for the c-section at 6 in the morning. Well, we made it at 6:10am. It was way early. Surprisingly I actually got sleep that night which is great because I haven't really slept since then! It was still dark when we walked to up to the hospital and their Christmas tree was lit and it was beautiful. Gary took a picture of it but it didn't turn out too well! We walked in and I changed and got my IV in. Took awhile for them to find the heartbeat but they found it and so we waited for about an hour and I got moved to another area to get more fluids and to get ready for surgery. I was really nervous and shaking. They had these awesome heated blankets that helped me out. The operating room was sooo cold so I got the shakes again while they were trying to get my spinal in. The first time the meds didn't kick in and the OB had to sit and wait for me to start feeling the numbness but it didn't happen, so we tried it again and then I instantly felt it. Weirdest thing ever! It was like my whole lower extremities were "fallen asleep" and I felt constant tingles. I would tell my feet to move but they didn't! So weird! I ended up getting really nauseous and throwing up a couple of times before Gary came into the room. Then she came out like five minutes later! Gianna cried immeditately and of course so did I. She weighed 6lbs and 9 oz and was 20 inches. So beautiful!!!
