David-Victor III (DJ)`s birthstory

5:50am Saturday my water broke in bed. I went to the bathroom where it was just pouring out. I only had very mild period like cramps at this point. I called my Mom and my OB office while David got all our bags and hospital items into the car. The doctor told me to head over to L&D. I had to wait for my Mom to get to my house which took an hour-sigh! They hooked me to the monitors and I was feeling pretty good. After an hour I started getting contractions and they were regular. I got checked and was 0cm... how frustrating! So the doctor inserted a suppository to ripen my cervix and could stay in for 12 hours. After the put it in I was feeling such strong contractions and wasn`t getting any relief from them. It was like a non-stop contraction. After 2 hours they took the suppository out because it was too strong- I was 3cm. The nurse kept having me change postitions because at every contraction the baby`s heart rate would go down. At one point it went from 153bpm to 60bpm! But every postion it didn`t matter, so they had me sitting straight up with my legs dangling down and gave me oxygen. They said if his heart rate continued to go down I was going to need a c-section. The pain at this point was awful and I had to get the stadol- it did nothing for me! They checked me and I was 5cm. I said I wanted the epidural and they came to give it to me. Had a little trouble finding the right spot and I kept feeling pain in my hips and spin from it- so weird and scarey. After 30mins it was in and okay. I got checked and was 7cm. The epi worked for the most part, but my whole body was shaking and my blood pressure went down to 90/60 and kept getting lower. So the anesthesiologist came in and they had to turn it off. Then I got checked and I was 9.5cm and they asked me to try and push as the baby`s head was still high in my pelvis. I pushed with all I had when they told me I was having a contraction and he was moving down and making great progress. Then I started to REALLY feel it because the epi had worn off and they were doing the ice test on my legs and I could feel it. After 20minutes of pushing, and the worst pain I could ever imagine in my life, my little man was born into the world. The reason his heart rate kept going down when I would move is because the cord was wrapped around is chest and his neck. So every time I'd lay on either side it would cut the oxygen off because it was around is whole body. Lucky, he did come fast enough. To get me to push even harder they said I would need a c-section if I couldn't get him delievered quickly. I even got popped blood vessels in my eyes! I could NOT have done it without the couching of my Mom- she was wonderful. My husband did what I thought, he was so quiet and didn`t know what to say the whole time. He was great though and very supportive! Our baby boy was (and is) healthy and beautiful. I had torn so bad inside and out. I was laying there for 30-45mins while she stitched me back together. OMG that was just as bad as labor. It was so painful and still is- even with all the pain meds they sent me home with. I say he was worth every tear and tare!
