David-J-Flowers`s birthstory

First of all let me say WOW....I am SO in LOVE!!! My boy is SO beautiful! .... now to our story... Original due date was May 19 which I thought I was definitely going to go over, I had no signs at all... well on Thursday morning I woke up and felt a little crampy but nothing to bad. When I first went to bathroom I wiped and noticed that a sizable piece of the mucus plug had come out and it was very brown, with that I thought ok finally something is happening. That day I went grocery shopping and ran some errands. At around 2pm I called my Mom to let her know about the plug and thats when the contractions started up. They weren`t to painful but I was definitely was feeling something. When my husband got home I told him that I wanted to go out to dinner because I had a feeling that it might be a long time before we would go out again. All through dinner the contractions were there but they were bearable. That night at home we decided to start timing them which at that point they were about 14 min apart and sometimes longer so we decided that I was probably just gearing up for labor within the next couple of days. We went to bed that night and thats when the contractions started full force. I let my husband sleep for a couple of hours, I took a shower and tried to get comfortable but when I noticed that they were coming at 4 min apart I better wake him up. The thing is that I didn`t want to go to the hospital right away and get sent back home so I just wanted to make sure. At that point that I was my husband decided that we better get to the hospital. What a hard car ride that was...OUCH!!
TO THE ACTUAL HOSPITAL AND BIRTHING EXPERIENCE ....
We arrived at the hospital at 4;30 am, they hook me up to the monitors at which time my contractions are coming at 1-2 minutes apart and I am only 2 centimeters dilated. They put me onto an IV, which I was not happy about but at that point I was in so much pain with as fast as the contractions were coming. They then ask me if I would be having the epidural, my plan was to have an all natural birth so I say NO epidural..they look at me like I am an alien at that point. I tell them that I am open to it but at that point I do not want it yet. So as I am getting settled in the contractions do start to ease up. The nurse then brings in another bag on liquid to hook up to my IV, my husband asks what they were adding, so the nurse tells him that they need to add the pitocin because my contractions are spreading apart. Thats when I shot out of bed and told the lady absolutely not, especially without them consulting me first!
Some time goes on and the contractions do start to speed up and the pain is just fiece! I wasn`t dilating either so thats when I started to consider the epidural, with as bad as I was feeling I couldn`t imagine being like that for hours and then trying to push the baby out so I got the epidural. I felt really weak giving into it but at that point I needed to do what I needed to do!
The doctor came in at around 3 to break my water and that when we discovered that the baby had had a bowel movement inside the womb. I was then informed that once the baby came out I would not get him right away and that there would be a special team of doctors in the room to take over to make sure that he was ok. I tried to be as strong as I could at that point but the thought of my baby being not well terrified me!
Finally around 3 I was dilated to a 6 so my body was what it needed to do, thats when the intense pressure started, the baby was making his dissent down into the birth canal. I was informed that the epidural could not stop you from feeling pressure so you would be able to push the baby out. Alls I can compare it to is having to take the largest bowel movement ever! And I definitely did have a couple of those as I was getting ready to push ( I KNOW TMI!!!) At 4:30 I told them that I was feeling unbearable pressure so they checked me and I was ready to go so I started pushing with the nurse to get the babies head past my pelvis which took me about 3 hours after that the I was taken into the delivery room where the doctor and my husband did a wonderful job of getting me to push one big baby out. As soon as he came out the doctor was able to clear his lungs before he took a breath and then handed him over to the special pediatric doctors. They worked on him in the room with me which was very comforting instead of him being taken away. By the looks of what they were doing everything seemed to being going well. When they handed him to my husband I knew we were in the clear! As soon as my husband got him he brought him over to me and that when we met face to face for the first time. He instantly latched onto to the boob and has been there pretty much ever since. He is just so amazing! I never knew how i love I would be.
This is the first minute I have had so my mind is a little frazzled...sorry if I rambled but I wanted to make sure I did not leave any details out!!!
