Benjamin-Charles`s birthstory
Hello, I have a beautiful baby boy! I was having what I thought were contractions and went to the hospital. I also thought it might be a bladder infection. I did everything they said to do to determine if they were braxton hix- I drnak water, walked, warm bath etc - Nothing seemed to stop them. So, I drove to the hospital ( my husband was at work and out of town for a settlement/brc. On the way to the hospital I saw that the pains( contractions ) were coming every 7 minutes ( about 1:30 pm on Thursday August 21st). I went to labor and delivery- they hooked me up to the monitors and baby`s heartbeat was 185- Mine was 157. My blood pressure was low and they immediately took my blood, temperature and had me pee. I had a fever of 101`, my white blood cell count was 27,000 ( abot 20,000 more than it should be) and my urine was fine- no protein or bacteria) I had no other symptoms of being sick. The contractions on the monitor didn`t really show up as a contraction- just little blips. They did feel like a tightening period cramp very low in my pelvis. Basicall, they started me on fluids, high levels of antibiotics and in between all of this- I started having some pinkish bleeding with mucus and when I went to the bathroom i saw a clot ( the mucus plug had come out.) They kept me to see if the heart rate would come down with fluids and antibiotics...( mean while the contractions are intensifying). One nurse said they were contractions- another one said that were just aggravations( because they only lasted 20-30 seconds...anyway- long story short- eventually after bringing in a high risk specialist, sending me for a Bio physical ultrasound- they did determine they were contractions coming every 2 1/2 minutes and the baby`s head was so far down in the pelvis the ultrasound person could not see to measure his head. I got an epidural..what relief and several hours later I had a C-section. My surgery lasted 2 1/2 hours...somehow during the surgery they `nicked` my uterus and had to bring in another surgeon to fix it - the other potential option was having to do a hysterectomy to stop the bleeding....thankfully- they fixed my uterus , tied my tubes ( which II had asked for efore surgery) and my baby was perfect...I was very scared during surgery- I am not really sure why...I kept shaking almost uncontrollably during my C-section which they attributed to the medicine from the epidural. After the baby was out- I was given shots of demerol in my IV and drifted in and out of consciousness.....My husband held my hand the entire tiime and was truly a pillar of strength. The anesthesiologist was so reassuring and comforting. I feel that I was very lucky - my outcome was good. I was in recovery fro 5 1/2 hours. My blood pressure remained very low.....I got to see my baby ( Ben) in the NICU - My precious nurse in recovery took me up in my bed on the way to my room to see him. He is beautiful. He will be in the hospital for several weeks. He was breathing on his own the next day. He had a little `oxygen igloo` over his head the first day. He is being given several antibiotics. They still are unsure what the infection was that I had- They just know it caused me to go into labor and have all the side effects. I came home on the 4th day and I am ok. I know Ben is getting wonderful care. I have been pumping breast milk and colostrum since Friday afternoon after his birth and take it to the NICU daily. I am sore, but honestly it isn`t awful. I can go up and down the stairs - no problem. I am caredul not to pick anything heavy up and I am just happy our family of is complete. In the next few weeks we will all be at home safely together
