Grace`s birthstory
A day before my due date I tripped, fell and broke my radius in my left arm. I went to the ER and they gave me a sling and told me to follow up with an orthopedic. I had my OBGYN appointment the next day so I went there. The doc said she was going to wait another week to let my arm heal. My arm was swollen and in pain. Anyway, I went to see the orthopedic the following day and he said that he couldn`t do anything due to my `condition` of being pregnant.
The following week I returned to my 41 week checkup with my OBGYN and she said that if she would have known that nothing could have been done she would have induced me earlier. Anyway, she made a phone call to the hospital to have me induced. I was so nervous, I didn`t know what to expect.
My husband and my sister came with me to the hospital. We arrived at 2:30pm or so. I was giving pitocin at 3:15pm starting at 2 mu(milliunits). As time went on it was increased. The max they do at the hospital is 16mu. I was in bed lying down feeling the contractions get stronger. I wasn`t comfortable in bed so I asked if I could sit. I did and the contractions felt less painful. I was sitting in the chair and my pitocin was up to 14 mu. The nurse kept saying, `Oh, she still smiling, we need to wipe that smile of her face.` I was pretty happy and comfortable in the chair. My doctor arrived at 5:30pm and said, `What are you doing sitting there, get in that bed so we can have this baby!` Well, I had to go back to bed because she came to break my water. As soon as my water broke, the contractions started coming stronger and more painful. I asked for an epidural at 7pm. The anesthesiologist came to do my epidural and the way he was doing it felt totally different from my first birth experience. The numbness felt under my belly button and down my thighs.
One hour later I started feeling uncomfortable. I started feeling a pain of constipation along with the feeling of wanting to go poop. I told this to the nurse and ask for a boost on my epidural. By the time I asked I was already 10cm dilated. The anesthesiologist came to give me a boost but it didn`t do anything for me. My doc told me that I could either wait for the anesthesia to take effect or work though it and have the baby quicker. I agreed to work through it.
I couldn`t have asked for a better doctor and nurse. They were so encouraging and nice. With every push there was pain. Finally after 17 of pushing at 9:27pm, I had my baby girl. While I was holding my baby my doctor was stitching me up. The pain of getting stitch didn`t hurt nearly as much as having the baby.
At the hospsital, i had a private room. I felt spoiled since I had a fractured arm.
