Birth Story
So my due date was the 9th, which came and went, and my mother went in for throat surgery in nyc the 10th. It ended up being the 5-day surgery, so she had to stay there. I stayed with her the first night to keep her company, and all the nurses were telling me I should have gone home b/c I looked like I was about to pop. The next afternoon (the 11th) I drove back to jersey to get some rest and would drive back the next morning. Well I started getting menstrual like cramps and it was hard to walk- that and my ankles were swollen completely and they haven't done that once throughout my entire pregnancy. Then when I went to the bathroom, I noticed blood in the toilet. I freaked out, completely forgetting about the "bloody show" that's supposed to occur before, so I called my dr. She told me to come to the hospital to just get checked out. It was about 10 or 11 pm when I got there...with my stepdad taking a train to meet me there just in case it was time. They check me out, only to tell me I'm contracting, only 1 cm dilated and 80% effaced. They sent me home and told me to come back if anything happens. I get home and have horrible pains in my stomach...like it kept getting hard as if baby was tryin to pop through my belly. I didn't sleep at all and by 3:30 I decided to time these pains to see if they were in fact contractions. I timed them until 5:30 b/c they weren't really regular (the whole 5 minutes in between). They averaged to be about 3 mins apart by that time so I called the dr. to see if I should come in. At about 7 a.m., my stepdad and I went and they told me I was 2 cm dilated and 80% effaced i think. They were telling me I'd need an epidural...I was completely against it b/c I wanted to go natural. The next time the dr checked me, she said i was progressing slowly, so she just broke my water...I didn't have time to even say NOOO! haha. Then the pain started realllllly bad and I tried like hell to go as long as I could without any pain meds. The pain was so bad I almost passed out trying to breathe it away, and my blood pressure kept going up. They told me I would be in labor for another 6 hours, and I freaked. I tried again to deal as long as I could with the pain without screaming, and then gave in to the epidural. Holy crap that helped sooooo much and I didn't feel the epidural at all going in. The contractions then only felt like I had to take a #2 (tmi sorry lol). Then all of the sudden they checked me and I was 8 cms dilated and 100 % effaced, so soon after I was instructed to push...by 12:25 p.m. my baby boy, Connor Alexander was born. He was so tiny and didn't cry at all. Moved his head around to look at everyone. He got brought over to get weighed and peed all on my stepdad haha. What an experience. Now we're home and it's been rough adjusting, but I'm slowlllly getting the hang of it all. Aside from all of the crying here and there from worry. Breastfeeding has been so hard and he falls asleep after a few minutes and won't wake up. Stressssss. Hopefully it will get better. But I love my little man more than anything...so adorable. <3333
