Duration of labor: 4hrs
Weight @ birth: 7.2 lbs
Length @ birth: 19\
The last post I left before leaving for the hospital was one of doubt, as I was not optimistic that l/d would have a bed for me and ready to induce. But, alas, to my surprise- when I called in on Friday morning, they said `come on in at 7`-- which left an hour to get there. Off we went, myself, my husband and I, meeting up with my sister in law on the way. I arrived just after 7 am, and found I was dilated to 4. Pitocin was administered at 8 am and the first contractions started 15 min. later. I quickly went to 5 cm. My water was broken by doc, and I was advised to get my epidural quickly as labor and dilation was progressing. Epidural was done as I was 6cm and ladies-- it did not hurt. My legs got heavy and numb and it took about 15 minutes to take full effect. By this time my contractions were 3 minutes apart. Baby`s heart rate began to dip with each contraction (this is normal with my babies for some reason) and they gave me oxygen. My doctor left to perform a c/section-- but soon I was 9 cm dilated and feeling no pain but lots of pressure. I had had a cold/cough thing going and the nurse told me to stop coughing as baby was right there and may come a slidin` out. Course it wasnt that easy. My mother was pacing the floor waiting for the doc to finish his surgery-- I have been an effective pusher in the past, but this was my 4th delivery-- first epidural and it was difficult to know exactly WHERE to push. Once the y dialed down the epidural it was easier-- still took an hour altogether. At 12:29 pm baby boy Hall came about, weighing 7 lbs and 2 oz, measuring 19 inches. I had a 2nd degree tear, but was so numb I didn`t know it. His heart rate was high at 200bpm and he had some fluid in his lungs. He is gorgeous. Such an easy baby. Eats well, burps well, poops well. All the stuff that matters. The following day I had my tubal ligation, which also was a breeze. I am a bit sore today from the after pains from the uterus contracting back to size. Yey for percocet. Good luck to all the Mommies still expecting- It`s truly a miracle every time!
