Well, it all started on Tuesday, March 3rd when I had my 37 week dr. appt. I was also having an ultrasound that day to check his size since I had been measuring big for a few weeks. I had the ultrasound and everything looked great and it said he was measuring in at around 8 1/2 lbs. So I go to see my doctor right after and my blood pressure was pretty high. The nurse said she would check it again at the end to make sure it wasn't a fluke. The doctor said the ultrasound was great and wasn't too concerned on his size or anything, but wanted to check the blood pressure again because I also had protein in my urine. I also found out I was 1 cm dilated and 70% effaced. So she checks it again and it was even higher. So I go sent straight over to the hospital for monitoring. This was around 11 am... So I'm over at the hospital forever being monitored for blood pressure every 15 minutes. Finally somewhere around 2-3 hours later, my doctor made the call that we were going to induce. Since I was already having contractions, she decided to do a pitocin induction starting at 9 pm that night.
They finally started pitocin and my contractions started up but weren't too horrible. Eventually by morning around 8 am, I had made it to almost 3 cm. So my doctor broke my water at this time. After this the contractions really got going and I was given some pain medicaton called staydol or something that was the craziest thing ever. The room was spinning and I was so out of it! Finally early afternoon, I had made it to 5 and they let me get an epidural. The nurse had told me the epidural would help with my blood pressure and often brought it down. Well it brought it down alright! Soon after my epi when I wanted to rest for pushing, my blood pressure dipped really low and they quickly got me on oxygen trying to bring my blood pressure back up. Right before this happened, my hubby had left to go and get something to eat and then came back to that and he was freaked out. Anyway so I kept progressing and doing really well until I was fully dilated sometime around 5:30 or so. So I started pushing. I pushed for an hour and a half to no avail. His little head was stuck and would not come out and with each contraction his heartbeat would dip. At this point I was completely exhausted after having virtually no sleep since Monday night and it was now Wednesday. My doctor gave me the option of pushing for another hour or so or just going for the C section. I was very disappointed, but I chose to go straight for the C section. I had no energy left in me! So they took me in to do the C section and that part was not pleasant either! I'm sure there are some pleasant C sections but mine was not at all because he was basically stuck in the birth canal already. So I literally had them on top of my stomach pushing on me to get him out of the birth canal and up so they could get him out. I was just crying the whole time it was awful. Finally at 8:15 he was born! I was so happy to have him out, but then I started shaking like crazy from the anesthesia and stayed that way well into recovery so I couldn't really hold him that well because I was shaking and I was literally so exhausted I could hardly keep my eyes open to see my new baby. But we are home now and I'm slowly recovering and just happy to have him here! I wish things would have been a little easier getting him here, but what can ya do!

Wesley Alan Sex: boy Born: 07 August, 2010 Age: 1 years & 193 days Birthday in: 172 days Starsign: Leo Development: See the 18 months page. Biggest achievement so far: - |
Original due date: September 13, 2010
Special: I'm a twin!
Type of delivery: Cesarean section
Duration of labor: 5 hours
Weight @ birth: 5 lbs 12 oz
Length @ birth: 18 in.
The twins' birth basically came out of nowhere. I had went to the doctor on Wednesday and I was still not dialated or effaced at all. I was having some BH contractions, but actually less than I had before. I went to the perinatologist on Thursday and my blood pressure was really high, but I didn't have protein in my urine, so he put me on a 3rd medication and sent me on my way. My blood pressure was really great on Friday so I was relieved the medication was working and I could hopefully keep the boys in for a couple more weeks.
Well then came Saturday. My husband had to work Saturday morning and then had to go to a coworkers house to help him fix his power washer so he wouldn't be home until mid-afternoon and my mom who is staying with us was going to take Greyson shopping, so it was just me at home. Well I took advantage of the peace and quiet and took a nice nap and then got up for awhile and ate lunch and then laid back down again. I felt completely normal up until about 3 pm i was laying in bed and felt Baby B do a huge shift in my tummy. It was the strangest thing ever because I had never felt them move that much. It felt like he moved up from the side to the top of my tummy. I then started feeling kind of sick and then what I thought was just gassy. My husband got home and came and talked to me and said he was going to go out back and work on his lawn mower, so I decided to get out of bed at that point and move around hoping to get the gassy feeling to go away. Well I stood up and it seriously felt like Baby A's head dropped into my pelvis. I was feeling a lot of pressure that I definitely hadn't been having, but I still didn't think too much of it.
Well my mom and Greyson got home and I was sitting on the couch and the gassy feeling suddenly turned into really bad lower back pain. I still did not think this was contractions or anything, because my pitocin iduced contractions with Greyson did not feel like that. Well my discomfort suddently turned to being fairly painful, so I decided to get in the shower and see if that helped. I get out of the shower and I realize that this back pain I'm feeling is starting to go into regular intervals, so I finally realize its probably contractions. I timed them and they were about 5 minutes apart, so I went out and told my husband he better get in the shower because we need to go to the hospital. So we get in the car to drive to the hospital and my contractions started getting way more painful and getting closer together.
We got to the hospital and they got me hooked up to the monitors and finally found both babies. They see that I am indeed having regular contractions and were surprised that they had just started like 3 hours prior. They get my doctor on the phone and he tells them to check me so they can go about the process to admit me and see what time they need to do my C-section. He is in a band, so he was at a gig at the time. So they check me at about 6:30 and I am shocked to find out I'm almost 6 cm dialated and Baby A's bag was bulging out. Thats when chaos ensued! My doctor said we were having a C-section no later than 8 pm and they needed to start getting me ready. So here I have a nurse trying to start my IV, tons of other nurses in there asking questions and having me sign papers, the anesthesiologist in there explaining the spinal anesthesia to me all while having some pretty intense and close together contractions! It was pretty much a nightmare trying to get through that with those contractions!
Finally they wheeled me into the operating room and I sat up on the side of the bed so the anesthesiologist could start my spinal. My contractions were horrible at that point and at that point I just wanted to die because I had to sit still for him and I had a nurse in front of me trying to adjust the belts to get the other baby back on the monitors. He finally put the spinal in and it was instant relief! I loved it so much more than the epidural which I had with Greyson. I laid down and was instantly going numb! Soon after that they had me all ready and started the C-section. It went really quick and soon the doc told me they were getting to the first baby and he exclaimed what a good sized baby he was. Wesley Alan came into the world peeing at 8:02 pm! I was so relieved to hear his sweet little cry and I burst into tears when they brought him around the curtain to show me. Right after he was born the doctor said that a little hand was reaching out as if the other little guy was saying don't forget about me! Colton Benjamin came into the world at 8:04 pm and was also screaming. They both scored 9's on their Apgars and they said they were doing pretty well for 34 weeks 5 days. They were all impressed with their sizes for that gestation and for twins. They were taken to the nursery and hooked up to oxygen while I was taken to recovery.
We already were set on Wesley's name but as you may know it was a toss up for the other ones name. So he actually didn't have a name until the next morning when I was able to get into a wheelchair and go and see him. He definitely looked more like a Colton than a Wyatt and hubby really liked Colton, so thats what we went with. The middle names are the first names of my father and my husband's father. Later that afternoon, they were transferred to a different hospital that has a Level 3 NICU and a doctor there all the time that could keep an eye on them. They were mainly transferred because Wesley was having breathing problems and they said Colton could have stayed, but they figured it'd be easier on us if they transferred both of them to the same place. I was sad because the doctor had came in earlier and said I would be discharged on Tuesday and here it was Sunday and my boys were at a different place. Then later that evening the nurses started talking optimistically that I could be discharged on Monday if my blood pressures remained in control. So hubby went over to the other hospital to visit the boys for awhile that evening and then the next morning the doctor came in and said I could go and see my boys! I was so excited and was out of there and on my way to see the boys by noon!
