Rachel`s birthstory
Well I`m not sure why I happened to go into labour so early, I guess she just wanted out! My waters broke at 11.10pm on Tues 5 Aug. I wasn`t able to give birth at the hospital that I was booked into because she was less than 36 weeks so we were sent to King Edward. I was given steriods to try and mature her lungs and then some medication to stop the contractions coming on. They sent me to the labour and delivery ward and thats were I slept the night (or 1hr of the night I should say). First thing in the morning they sent me to the ward. I had a pretty comfortable day, contractions here and there but nothing I couldn`t handle. I had plenty of visitors to keep me company. By the time I went to bed I started getting regular contractions every hour, sometimes half an hour, sometimes 20 mins. By 4am I`m had 5 contractions in the hour so I called a nurse to see if I could get something for the pain. They decided it was about time I was sent to labour and delivery again. All my contractions up until 5am were all in the from, then they moved to mainly my back. I tell you back labour is the WORST!! When i went to delivery my contractions almost stopped. I got one maybe 2 in the couple of hours before being induced. I`d dilated 4cms overnight so they doctor decided at 10am it was time to induce. Within an hour or so I needed an epidural. I didn`t want to deal with the horrendous pain if I didn`t have to. Only one problem with this, it only took to one side of my body!! So I was sucking the gas as well until I delivered. They tried pulling the epi out a bit to try and even it out and as they kept topping it up my left side was getting number and number and the right side only marginally by the end. So the right hand side of my belly and my right hip to my waist was in SO MUCH PAIN so at every contraction I was tensing up, I couldn`t relax at all. Amazingly by 2pm I was fully dilated and ready to push. I pushed for abotu an hour but because of all the top ups of the epi I was having a lot of trouble feeling too push. I could feel the contractions but I didn`t seem to push very hard. I felt so weak. In the end she had to be pulled out by forceps. I was really worried about them pulling her head off, was very scary. And Rachel Marie was born at 15.10 on 07/08/08. It was so surreal when they put her on my belly, like she wasn`t really mine as it was just too early. It took a bit to sink it that I have a daughter. And after all that, I couldn`t even push out her tiny 29cms head and ended up with a tear in my perineum and labia due to the forceps. So I think I have about 8 stitches all up. The perineal tear was the smallest one!!
I am the proudest new mummy in the whole world and she is the most beautiful girl in the world to me. I have a bit of the baby blues though as I`ve been crying on and off since yesterday. I cried when I came home and left her at the hospital. I miss my angel, can`t wait to see her in the morning!
