Gabrielle-Samantha`s birthstory
I was scheduled for an induction on the 13th as she would be over a week overdue at that point. However, I woke up on the 12th with the most painful cramps I had ever had. Over the course of the day they became stronger and more and more frequent. At 6am on Wed we headed to L&D as my contractions were 3-4 mins apart. I was only 2cm dialated at this point so it was decided to give me some morphine for the pain and send me home. We learned that I am allergic to morphine the hard way. I developed a huge red, hot, welt at the injection site and ended up staying a few more hours while they gave me benadryl by IV.
By 11am I was flying high between the mixture of morphine, gravol and benedryl, my contractions were stronger but my cervix hadn`t progressed any further so they decided to send me home. I LITERALLY came home, sat down on the bed and my water broke...GUSH! We called L&D to ask if we should return but got no answer so we left a message. They never called back! Around 2pm the pain was so excruciating that I was shaking uncontrollably. We called again to let them know that we would be coming in....THEY WANTED TO SEND ME TO ANOTHER HOSPITAL and put Kevin on hold saying they would see what they could do. He was on hold for over a half hour and I was getting worse and worse....my contractions were only 2 minutes apart so we made the decision to just head in.
We waited in the waiting area for what seemed like hours (it was probably about 40 mins) with me doing the best not to scream my head off. Finally, they let me in to be assessed. I WAS ONLY 4cms and still shaking from the extent of the pain. Since they were still trying to send me to another hospital they wouldn`t administer any pain meds, nor the epidural that I so desprately needed. We tried gas but it just made me lose control of my emotions. I became hysterical....two hours later I WAS STILL ONLY 4cm.
The nurses called in a Dr as with every contraction her heartrate was dropping significantly. Eventually they got me a room (at around 8pm)and I got my epidural. THEY FROZE ME TOO MUCH and it had to be turned off for the next two hours. To top it all off, the epidural had made my contractions all but stop. So, I was put on oxytocin (without any pain meds again) to start things up again. By 1am I was still at 4 cm, her heartrate continued to drop and was going lower and lower with each contraction and I was even with the epidural running again in so much pain that I was again shaking uncontrollably. At 2 the Dr came in and assessed me. There were 4 nurses, 2 Drs and the epidural guy in the room...NOT A GOOD SIGN. Turns out the reason I was in such extreme pain was because my cervix was swollen and inflamed from all the pressure of the contractions and the lack of dialation. It was decided that between the lack of progress, the extent of my pain and the very concerning state of her heartrate that an emergency c section was needed.
Gabrielle Samantha was born at 3:06 am on Thursday August 14th. She had finally arrived!
