Spencer-Thomas`s birthstory
So I was scheduled for an induction at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8th. I called and the charge nurse told me she had a bed waiting `specially` for me. So Chris and I left my house to make the hour long trip to the hospital. We got to the hospital right on time and were in a room by 5:30. The original plan was to do Cervadil for 12 hours and at 5 am on Wednesday we would start the Pitocin. Well that all changed when they hooked me up to the moniters and I was having contractions every 2-3 minutes, which I didn`t even feel. So apparently they can`t do the cervadil if i`m having contractions so we moved straight to low dose pitocin. I started contracting pretty regularly and decided to get a low dose IV med at about 11:30. At around 2 am my water broke on its own, much to the surprise of both me and my nurses, since I was only 1-2 cm dilated. At around 3 am I was in a lot of pain and tried the highest dose IV pain med which did not help enough so at around 4 am I decided to get the epidural. OMG! I wish I would have gotten it sooner, the only thing that hurt was the lidocaine the Dr. used to numb my skin. After the Epidural I was finally able to sleep which i did until about 6:30 am when I woke up with a lot of pain from contractions. I tried pushing the button to release more Epidural but that didn`t help either. Then I realized that I felt like I had to poop (YAY!) so I called my nurse who came in and checked and I was ready to go. So after everything was all ready to go and my OB finally got there, I started pushing at 7 which is a lot easier said than done because the Epi had numbed me so much that I didn`t know where to push. I pushed for about 20 minutes and he only moved about 1 cm but all the pushing helped me feel where I needed to push, so when I finally figured that out it only took me 2 pushes to get him out. He was born at 7:29 am and weighed 6 lbs 13 oz, and was 20 in long. He passed his Apgar tests with an 8 and 9 so that was really good. I had a 1st degree tear and only needed 1 stitch, but i`m really not in that much pain at all. The worst part about delivery was the incompetent nurse who took literally like 20 minutes to do all the tests and the entire time she stood in between me and the baby so I couldn`t even see him, but other than that I was totally happy. My labor was 10 times easier and faster than I thought it was going to be and I am so happy to finally have my little boy!
