Had a regular 38 week check-up... went back at 39 weeks and had high blood pressure, protein in urine, swelling, had seen flying spots, and was diagnosed with Pre-Eclampsia. I was induced and 17 hours later, after only pushing for 35 mins, Lylah Kioko Books was born. Had a bad postpartum hemmorage where I lost A LOT of blood and wasn't able to hold my daughter by myself for about 6 hours because I kept passing out. I was monitered closely for 2 days, but then we got to go home.

Isabelle-Elana-Books`s birthstory
Hubby and I had come to the hard decision that if I hadn`t gone into labor by Saturday night we were going into the hospital for induction...(my doc was on call and left the decision up to me to come in or not.) I really didn`t want to be induced again but came to terms with it. Friday night I tried nipple stimulation/ applying heat to boobies, `curb walking` LOL (where you walk with one foot on the curb and the other in the gutter... crazy.) Anyways, I went to bed thinking nothing would happen. I woke up at maybe 3 or 4am having mild cramping contractions... I didn`t think anything of them because it happened all the time and would go away by morning. Went back to sleep and when 6:30am rolled around I couldn`t handle the aches and pains anymore so decided I would go downstairs and strech it out (as I would normally do.) The cramps in my back and sides along with stomach tightening kept coming. I decided I would go to contractionmaster.com and time them just for the heck of it. After a few I noticed they were consistantly coming every 5 minutes. They didn`t hurt badly, just like mild period cramps with tightening. At around 7:30 I woke up hubby and told him it was the real deal and to be on alert but that he could go back to sleep. (cause I`m nice, tehehe) I got my bags together and finalized and my daughter`s bag finalized and in the car... as soon as she woke up I made her breakfast, dressed her, and sent her and hubby off to auntie`s house to get rid of her -9am-(all while having contractions 4-5 mins apart.)
Once hubby got back I felt much better and we just relaxed and watched a lot of That 70`s Show, laughing and joking around. At around 10am I was getting upset at the messy house so I started cleaning up. Hubby`s job was to lay on the couch with the computer and press the space bar when instructed.LOL, he did good. I was doing the dishes and would just slow down during contractions but they didn`t stop me from walking/talking so I thought I was still early. They got a little stronger, but never closer than about 4 mins (1 min long) so I said maybe we should just head to the hospital and hang out on the lawn outside until I felt ready so we would at least be there. We took our time getting to the car, (oh and BTW I`ve been drinking 3+ cups of red raspberry leaf tea since 27 weeks, and had read stories of labor pain relief/ speedy labor if you make a extremely strong batch... 1oz tea in 2 cups water, so I made that and took it with to drink in the parking lot.) got in car and was fine, we joked around and had a great ride.. the contractions sucked though cause I couldn`t move around.
Arrived at hospital and got out... contractions much stronger all of a sudden but still 4 mins apart. Drank only about 3/4 of the tea as it was NASTY! We were going to hang out on the grass, but I changed my mind.... even though contractions wern`t that painful yet, I couldn`t walk through them anymore so decided it was time to get checked. Although I was pre-registered there was a line to check in. grrrrrrrrrrr I waited outside cause I didn`t want to be with all the sickos... finally it was my turn. They checked me in and sent down a nurse to bring me up. The moment my butt hit the weelchair contractions started to bring a little tear to my eye. (not too too bad though)
Finally got up to L&D and the charge nurse hooked up a moniter and took BP etc... Only monitered 2 contractions and that`s when I said, `It just feels like I have to poop. For maybe 2 hours it just feels like I have to poop.) She immediately checked my cervix and I was 9cm dilated! (I was expecting maybe 6) She said things would move quickly, no pain med options, people would come and go quickly etc. They checked me again and said my bag of water was sooooooo strong. It was the only thing holding baby back. They had my try a little push to break the bag, but that didn`t work so doc broke it for me. Doc checked me agagin and said baby was posterior... why I had the pain in my back evidently. As soon as that was done we were pushing. (15 mins after getting to L&D) Now I had pain. Awful pain. It felt good to scream even though I was advised not to and just to push. I`m sure baby could have come sooner, but I doubted my abilities. Between contractions (when my brain worked) I kept saying, `I CAN do this, I HAVE to do this.` It helped me. Finally I asked doc to cut me. She said she would ONLY if she thought it would help. grrrrrrrrrrrrr. After about 25 mins of pushing she did a little cut and out came baby................ GIRL! (we didn`t know) Thank God! She was beautiful and warm, but I was hyperventilating so I asked for her to be taken off me asap! Slowed my breathing and tried to relax but was shaking uncontrollably. I was told this happens all the time especially when you don`t have pain meds. this continued for a few hours. She was 9 pounds 0 ounces, 21 inches long. After some time we named her Isabelle Elana Books. I had some stitches but really no pain down there. Even now, 1 1/2 days later no pain on the stitches. yay! I feel awesome. It`s an amazing feeling and I can do anything. Empowering. Oh and I got the same nurse I had with my first daughter who is incredible. I LOVE her, and will be sending her a card. Since things went so quickly we filled out the admitting paperwork AFTER she was born. LOL! I honestly believe that the red raspberry leaf tea helped me. Oh, and the doc thinks I might have been at 9cm for awhile and the bag of water was the only thing holding her back, because of my feelings to poop for so long. We`ll never know, cause I risked getting there too late!
Isabelle has high risk jaundice and is undergoing phototherarpy for 24 hours. I go in every 3 hours to breastfeed her. It`s hard, but HOPEFULLY only for a day. Sorry for the really long story. thanks for reading!

Ace-Takai`s birthstory
Scheduled induction at 6:30am.... went in to get things started, and informed them I wanted an epidural as soon as I could possibly have one. They said, `well, do you want one NOW?` I answered with, `yes, if you will let me!! LOL!` Obviously they didn`t want me to get one before labor began though. Started pitocin at 8am and was 2cm, 60%. Took awhile to get contractions in a pattern. 10:15 doc came in and broke my water, 3cm. My contractions were one on top of the other so I asked to get checked at 11:30, and was 4cm. I wasn`t in extreme pain or anything, but didn`t want to miss my epidural chance, so I requested an epidural at 11:30am. At 12:20 (an hour later!) the med man came in to go over some things, and then disappointed me by saying he had to go to the OR in 10 mins and would be back right after. WHAT THE HECK?!? From that point on contractions were hurting soooo badly. I asked my nurse how long it could take for the med man to come back, and she said up to an hour. AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH! I managed with moaning through contractions while keeping a close eye on the clock. Just after 1:30pm he came back in to do the epidural. At this point I was almost screaming through contractions and crying. We finally got the epi started and it was in just before 2:00pm, but took 10-15 mins to kick in. I was feeling better, but suddenly I was hyperventilating and EXTREMELY HOT HOT HOT! The nursing student and hubby fanned me off, then they realized there was actually a FAN, and that was amazing. During this time baby was having a ton of decels and they were talking about possible problems with his cord. I was immediately made to lay on my left side and have oxygen mask for baby. He wasn`t getting too much better so they were getting ready to put an internal monitor on his head to keep track of him better. At this point I was seriously scared about a c-section. At 2:15pm the nurse checked me just before she was going to do the internal monitor, and I was complete! I was so sad because I just wanted to rest! haha, anyways they said he was probably having decels because he was coming down soooo fast. They asked if I wanted to push, and I said NO! I don`t ever want to push, and I was completely serious. They said that was fine and I could `labor him down` for a bit. =) But within a few minutes I felt as if I was holding him in, and really should push. Doc came in and they convinced me to try some pushing. We started pushing like 2:25- 2:30ish, and I was sooo numb after the first set of pushing I asked, `well?? Did that do anything? How long do you think? 45 mins?` My doc said, `Oh you`re doing great, and I`m guessing in the next 5 mins.` What?!? LOL, Well, Ace Takai was born at 2:37pm weighing a mere 6 pounds 12 ounces and 20.5 inches long. He`s so cute! Even though I only had my epidural for about 30 mins total, it was TOTALLY worth it! =) I didn`t tear at all, and I feel great down there... I`m liking the little babies! I was doing great the rest of the day, then in the middle of the night I woke up and felt huge blood clots coming out of me. By the time I got to the bathroom and sat down on the toilet the floor was already covered in blood and giant blood clots the size of oranges (according to my nurse) kept coming out. I called my nurse and she kept checking on me, and thinking it was slowing down, but then we`d try standing up and going to the bathroom again and more giant clots and gushes of blood would come out. Finally after a few hours of this and it not stoping they gave me a shot of Methergine to prevent hemmorhaging more. At that point my clots stopped and bleeding slowed down. YAY! I was beyond exhausted from the blood loss, and was very anemic. Slowly every hour and now every day I`m getting better and better though. So glad to be home and hope the girls let us rest.
