Leona`s birthstory

My last appointment was scheduled for 2:30pm that day. (Which is funny because) I wondered, why bother since my inducement was scheduled for the next day. Good thing I went in because when my midwife checked me I was 6cm dilated. She`s like, I am going to call Labor&Delivery. See if any beds are available and we can have this baby today. I was like, cool!

The hospital was very busy. She told me to hurry over and be sure to look as if I am in pain to insure my bed. She said when I get there they are to start me on pitosim. If they do not start it right away, to call her and she will come break my water for me. Well, I didn`t want my husband to miss it, and I had to be sure the sitter was ok with my 2yr old. It was 4:00pm when I was in my hospital bed, ready to go. By time my midwife walked in, I had only had my bag of IV. It was about 6:30pm and she broke my water and got my epidural. When she broke my water we discovered that the baby had passed her meconium. I was insured that the baby was not under any stress. That all her vital signs were ok.

Leona def made me work to get her out. I pushed for about 30 min. She was born December 27th at 7:34pm. 7lb 4oz 18.5 inches. My first thought when I saw her was how chunky she looked. She was beautiful.

Since she had passed her meconium before she was born, they wanted to be sure that she didn`t inhale any with her first breath. My midwife cleaned her, suctioned her nose, mouth & throat. They had a couple people their to monitor her breathing right after birth. They said if she had inhaled any of the meconium that they would be able to tell through her breathing. And she would developed pneumonia type symptoms. Thank God all was well.
I personally think she was over due. As passing the meconium is a side effect of over due babies.
All-in-all, 3 1/2 hour labor. Not too bad for a days work :)
