Birth details

Type of delivery: Vaginal (with pain relief)
Duration of labor: 14 Hours
Weight @ birth: 9 lbs. 7 1/2 ozs
Length @ birth: 22 inches

After 2 weeks of contractions, (6 minutes apart at times) My cervix was showing no real sicns of dialating. On the day before my 40th week, we were finally able to convince the doctor to induce me the next morning. We arrived at the hospital at 6 a.m. on Friday morning. They started me on pitocin right after we go there. To make a long story short, It took me until 5 p.m. to dialate to 5-6 cm. Then the doctor decieded that it was time to break my water. I was hoping to get the epidural before they did this because pitocin contractions are 10 times worse if your water is already broken. (I know this from my birth experience with my son) Anyway the anisthesiologist was busy with an emergency in one of the other rooms. This meant that there was about an hour that I had some pretty bad contractions. (Still not too bad compared to the 10 hours of no drugs I had with Hunter's birth before I opted or the epidural) Anyway, I had my Epidural hooked up by 6:15 p.m. He did a great job!! It was pretty easy, and no complications!! By 7:15 I felt the pressure from the contractions change and just like with Hunter I knew that she was ready so I had Steve call in the nurse to check me and sure enough Emily's head was crowning. I had to wait a little longer to push though because the doctor was in the middle of another c-section. (It was a very busy night for babies) I pushed for about 5-10 minutes and she was here! Her delivery for me was an easy one. (I only needed 4 stitches to close things up compared to all the damage I got from Hunter's birth.) I'm so glad she is here! She is such a good baby!!!!!!
