William-Christopher`s birthstory

Well i went into the hospital at 7pm on friday the 31st October, to get induced. Gels and monitors went on and in around 8pm, Chris stayed with me till around 10.30pm and went home. I started having period pain through the night... 6am the next morning monitors went on and Chris arrived soon after. My cervix was checked around 9am. I was 4cm dilated. So the doctor came in and tried to break my waters, it took two tries for it to break. I started having contractions straight away. They were the most painful things i have ever experienced... Lisa my midwife tried me on the gas but i took two breaths and it just wasnt helping, she tried to talk me into pethadine but i just turned her down and want the epidural straight away. So the anesthetist came in and stuck the epidural in between contractions. I was having 4 to 5 contractions every 10mins. The epidural worked wonders i would recommend it to everyone! By 12pm My cervix was checked again and i was 10cms dilated and by 12.45pm it was time to start pushing. Pushing was so tiring, i just wanted to give up and let them pull him out. But no they said i had to push. So every contraction i had to push at least 3 times. Alot of tears and pushing and William was born at 2.12pm. He was placed on me and i got really scared as he was blue and wasn`t moving or breathing properly.. I kept asking whats wrong with him, he was picked up and put in a crib after Chris cut the cord... He was given oxygen and had his nose and mouth suctioned as he took a breath too soon and swallowed fluid. He then was rushed down stairs to the nursery and i had no idea what was going on... The doctor came in and pulled on the cord and my placenta came out and then i was checked if i needed stitches, which i did... So back on the gas for the needle. I got really light headed and went dizzy then 20 or more stitches later i was ready for a shower. My Baby weighed 8lbs 4oz and spent the night in the nursery and came up to my room the next morning looking pink and alot better... We went home on day two.

Sebastian-Alexander`s birthstory

I went in on friday night at around 9.30-10pm and i was checked for fluid but they just thought it was mucus... But just to be safe they put in a drip for my antibiotics... I stayed over night. Chris and William went home. They came back around 9am and at 1.30pm the doctor came and did another check for fluid and said i was definately leaking and broke my waters there and then, i was 5cm dialated... I went and had a shower... when i got out of the bathroom, i found out i have moved to a birthing room... I got into the new room and start blow drying my hair and contractions started... so still blow drying in between them... I finish and next thing they become quite painful and i just said i need an epi (William didn`t pay attention to me at all he was to busy watching dora on the laptop)... The midwife goes to find the anethetist... 10 cntractions or so later i yell chris to press the call button or run to find the midwife as i had to push... She just walked into the room at this time and i said i had to push! She didn`t believe but tells me to climb on the bed and she said she could already see the head. I just start pushing as i couldn`t hold it any longer. Next thing he`s flying out... I had no epi nothing as it was just too fast. He was born at 2.47pm... it just took over an hour from my waters breaking.

10 Hours later in the postnatal ward his breathing starts sounding fast and he was grunting alot in his sleep i ask the midwife, she said she will get a baby doctor up to check him... Next thing i know he was being rushed to nicu and attached to monitors. Doctors put him on antibiotics straight away and a drip as i said no feeding of formula or bottles... He was nil by mouth for about 4.5 days... They wouldn`t let me feed him at all... He was starving. The doctors came every morning to talk to me about what was happening... He had so much blood taken and a spinal to check for an infection within the brain, an xray to see if he had a twisted stomach but all came back normal and it showed he had reflux and then he had an ultrasound on his kidneys and it was to small to see if he inherited my duplux kidneys... So he has to see a pediatrician in two weeks. We finally were allowed home on friday afternoon. He is on medication twice daily every 12 hours for the reflux.
