Grace-Elizabeth`s birthstory
On the 25th I went to my midwife and she stretched me from 2.5cm dialated to 3cm. She warned me this could possibly bring on labor. Otherwise I was scheduuled for an induction the 29th. My husband and I left and I immediately had a contraction in the car and every 4 minutes afterwards. I was skeptical whether I was in labor or if this was just temporary because she stretched me. I called the nurse after an hour and she said wait another hour and call back. My husband Larry went back to work and told me to call him as to what she said in an hour. The contractions sped up to every 2.5 - 3 minutes but decreased in intensity. The nurse said come in and get checked. Larry left work and told everyone he wouldn`t be back because THIS WAS IT. I still wasn`t so sure. We got my mom all setup to watch my daughter and took our suitcase just in case. On the 30 minute drive to the hospital I had only 3 contractions. I was devastated they stopped! We almost didn`t get out of the car but I decided we might as well go in and get checked. Sure enough my contractions had slowed and were reading every 5-6 minutes. BUT I had already progressed to 4 cm so they admitted me at 7:30. I was thrilled. I did tons and tons of walking around the halls with Larry but by 2:30am I was only a 6. They suggested pitocin to speed things up. I was a little wary to start pitocin when I felt things were progressing but decided to go ahead with that and the epidural. Then everything slowed to standstill. I should have just kept walking! Oh. Well. 5:30 am I am still at 6 and baby has moved way up! They up the pitocin drastically and by 11am I`m still a 6 and baby very high. She decides to break my water even though baby isn`t as low as she would like (I`m referring to my midwife). 2pm they check me and I`m a 9 and baby is very low!!! Woo hoo! By 2:45 I`m a 10 and ready. I started pushing at 2:55 and spent 5 minutes pushing and she was out. Absolutely no pain. Amazing experience. No tear. This birth was a million times smoother than my first. Epidurals are Fantastic. Grace looked perfect from the moment I saw her. They placed her on my chest and it was instant love. Larry cut the cord. She latched on immediately so breastfeeding smooth so far!
