Birth Story
I woke up on December 27th at 2:30am having some strong contractions and assumed it must be labor as I had taken the castor oil in a last ditch effort the night before. I called the hospital, as I am a 45 minute drive away, and was told to time my contractions for an hour and to relax until then. My husband went to ed for a bit and I timed my contractons for a good hour and a half, they were coming consistantly every 2-3 minutes.
I woke my hubby and we headed off to the hospital at that point. We arrived to the hospital at about 5am. Up until this point the contractions were pretty painful but bearable, however as soon as I got out of the car the contractions were intense and I couldn't speak through them. We got onto the labor floor where they hooked me up to the monitors and started my IV. At this point I was 4cm. After about an hour and now measuring at 5cm dilated I opted for the epidural. The epidural wasn't as painful as expected, the painful part actually was trying to remain still for the procedure when you are in the middle of getting a contraction. As soon as the epidural kicked in it was HEAVEN! The nurses started to do the catheter on me, which I thought I never say but was also a god send, when I felt a huge "pop" and my water had broken on it's own.
The next few hours were very smooth as I couldn't feel my contractions and went from 5cm to 9.5cm in tis short time. The doctor came in said to give it 15 more minutes and we'd be ready. Now at this point I could feel alot of lower pressure but this was the only indication I had I was even getting a contraction which was nice. Doctor came back in, I was ready and I pushed for about 35-45 minutes. Pushing was the hardest part of the whole process and the most pain I think I've ever experienced was pushing out my son's big head, that part was horrible! It hurt so bad, even with the epidural, I don't kow how some of you women do it natural. Once his head was out his body followed right after ( a really weird feeling ) and then instant relief! I did tear a little from what I was told ( Hey he was 9 lbs ) so I was stitched up and a few moments later I had the most beautiful bald baby in my arms. He was worth all the pain of pregnancy and labor, although I don't think I'll be doing it again anytime soon. We were both released the following day from the hospital with a clean bill of health and are home and doing well.
