Carter-Raymond`s birthstory

On Friday night 02/08/08, back pain and cramping began around 11 PM, and continued through the night, and into Saturday 02/09/08. Around noon on Saturday, the contractions picked up in intensity and in duration, coming around 5-7 minutes apart. I called my OB, Dr. Rowland around 1:00 PM, and she said to go to the hospital for her to check me. We arrived at the hospital around 1:30 PM, and I was checked- I was 3 cm and 90% effaced, and very uncomfortable. I was moved to a room, and was hooked up to the monitors, an IV and IV fluids. The nurse asked me what pain relief I would like to use and I opted for an epidural, around 2:45 PM an anesthesiologist came in to start my epidural. After 3 unsucessful tries, my only other option was IV pain medication- phenergan and nubain. I received my first does @ 3:30 PM, and another dose @ 5:30 PM. The nurse told me that after I reached 8 cm, I couldn`t receive anymore meds due to it possibly making the baby sleepy. I reached 8 cm@ 7:30 PM, and was very uncomfortable, and going into the transition phase of labor. I was proud of myself for not using any profanity and for not threatening to kill my husband, as I had no pain relief once the contractions became very intense and lasting longer. At 8:10 PM, I began pushing, and in 4 sets of 3 pushes my son, Carter Raymond was born @ 8:23 PM. He was absolutely perfect. He looked up at me as they laid him on my chest, and I just knew that he was my purpose in life.
