my waters broke after taking a brisk walk. and contractions started half an hour later, i tried differet methods of pain relief. started with a bath at hospital, then pethidine, then gas and air which was effective but not enough, and ended up with an epidural which was fantastic! i never thought id say that as i was adamant i wasnt going to have one but i would definately have it again, no regrets. after 18 hours of labour and an hour of pushing our beatuiful baby boy was born! with a head full of black hair! he is the best thing that has ever happened to me, and i burst out crying when he was delivered onto my chest. aaron cut the cord and we cried with joy together. he is the most precious thing in my life!

On the 20th June 2009 i had regular contractions that woke me up at 5am, My midwife cam out at lunch time to check me over and i was 2cm dilated. the contractions continued until 2pm that day then stopeed. The next day (21st June 2009) FATHERS DAY my waters broke at 9am in the kitchen, Just a slow trickle. I called the midwife and she came out to check me over. I was 3 cm dilated and 50% effaced. My contractions continued regularly every ten minutes lasting about 30 seconds. Then at around 2pm they stopped, so I decided to go for a short walk, 5 minutes later my contractions returned and remained regular. The midwife came to the house shortly after and by this point i was in labour. Aaron pumped up the birth pool, flooded the kitchen with boiling hot water!!! so had to fix that! and whilst that was going on my contractions were getting stronger. at approximately 7pm the second midwife arrived with gas and air, and at this point my contractions were coming thick and fast! I leaned over my birthing/exercise ball with the gas and air. I went from 3cm dilated to 8cm in the space of an hour. When i was 8ck dilated I decided i needed to get in the pool. The pool was an immediate relief and was almsot soothing on my back. I laboured the end of my labour and delivered in the birth pool. Baby Rikku Yuna Brady was delivered in the birth pool of our living room at 20:57 pm weighing 6 pounds 11 ounces. her apgar scores were 9 at each time! she is so beautiful. I would definately have a home birth over a hospital one anyday, I felt much more in control and cuddling up on the sofa with my partner and our newborn daughter in the privacy of our home was so precious.
