Duration of labor: 27 hours

Monday morning, Sept 13th, I went in for my 37 week appointment and my blood pressure was slightly elevated from my norm but nothing drastic so there was really no concern. However, my urine sample had a really high protein level. My doctor told me to go to the hospital for further blood tests so we could get the results within the hour. He said best case all would be normal and I could go home and worst case was induction very soon. DH and I left the doctor and went home to grab the hospital bags and have some extra keys made for the house (we just changed locks) so someone could look after our pets just in case. Good thing we did both! We got to the hospital and they did lab work and hooked me up to a blood pressure monitor which took readings frequently. The lab work confirmed I had preeclampsia and my blood pressure levels continued to rise. I was told I could eat and rest for the night and that I'd be induced at 6 am the next morning. About an hour later the doctor came back and said we couldn't wait until the morning because my blood pressure was continuing to rise to alarming levels. I was given an IV (which was hell and took a couple nurses several tries) and hooked up to magnesium sulfate and meds to immediately regulate my blood pressure. Soon after they started pitocin. The doctor broke my water which was pretty painful and there was a ton of fluid! Shortly thereafter I got an epidural which seemed to be hit or miss. The labor began around 6 pm on the 13th and continued until about 8:30 pm on the 14th and after 2 hours of hard pushing Colton wasn't coming down. He was at a bad angle and sunny side up causing me horrible back labor. The doctor said I could keep pushing for another hour and that he might come down or we could go ahead and have a c section. At that point I was hardly awake and in so much pain that I knew I wasn't going to be able to do anything different with pushing than I had over the past two hours. I asked the doctor if she thought he was going to come down and she said no, so I agreed to the c-section. At 9:31 my little man was born via c-section. I got to hold him and take a few photos and then he and DH went to the nursery. I was put back together and taken to recovery. After an hour in recovery I was taken to my room to find out that Colton had very high magnesium levels and low blood sugar and was transferred to the nicu. His pediatrician said he had never seen magnesium levels as high as his...it made him very lethargic. Colton spent 5 days in nicu and finally came to my room Saturday. I was kept for 6 days due to my blood pressure being out of control. Just as it appeared to go down it skyrocketed to 212 over 106 the day they took my IV out, so I had to get another IV which was horrible all over again and hooked back up to meds to bring it down. It took several days for them to find a medicine and dosage to send me home with. We were discharged Sunday, Sept 19th!
