Laya was originally due on the 30th of March, 2009. However, 3 weeks before hand, I had been suffering from high blood pressure and they started noticing protein in my urine. So I was having appointments twice a week to monitor mine and the baby's health. My doctor had told me to have my bags packed and in the car, for if anything got worse, it was off to the hospital I go. So it just so happened that on March 16th, two weeks early, I went in for my appointment and my BP had sky rocketed and I had more protein in my urine. So, needless to say, the doctor said, guess what?! You're having this baby tomorrow! She told me to head straight to the hospital, get checked in, and then they would soften my cervix that night and then induce me the following morning. I called my husband who is a deputy and he just happened to be at the jail, and told him to meet me at the hospital. My family was called, Scott parents who live out of town were told to pack up and head this this way, and my boss was told he wouldn't have to worry about me having my water break at work. I was so nervous!!! That night, Scott and I slept long and hard until the next morning when they got me up so that I could eat before being induced and so I could get a quick shower before all the craziness began. It was hard to believe that I was going to have a baby that day because I didn't feel like I was in labor and it was all just too surreal. But it didn't take long before the effects of the enducing started to kick in. And pretty soon, I was feeling some major pain down in my uterus. I asked for an epidural which hurt beyond belief going in. The doctor said I must just have sensitive nerves in my spine. I think that might have hurt more then the actual labor! But luckily it kicked in quick and I felt no pain for about an hour. But then, it started to wear off, so they had to give me another dose. Which numbed everything but where it was suppose to. My uterus was still hurting as I was getting more and more labor pains. It was so intense that at one point, I started vomiting from the pain. And my family started taking pictures because they thought it was funny! They got yelled at. :) Anyway, again, another doctor came in to give me more fluids for the pain since the shift had ended for the one doctor. And when he found out that I was numb everywhere else, he was scared that if he gave me more, then my head might go numb and I would have trouble breathing so he wouldn't give me anymore pain killer. I was on my own. Around 6 pm the pain finally got to the point where I couldn't take it anymore and I had to start pushing. The doctor got ready and told me to push like I was taking a major poo. So that's what I did. I pushed for 2 hours. Everyone around me kept saying, she's almost here... she's almost here... until finally I said, quit telling me she is almost here! I don't want to hear that she is almost here! You've been saying that for an hour! Tell me when she is HERE! There were two male interns that had never seen a vaginal birth before so I'm sure they got a kick out of that! So right when the doctor decided to let me rest for a minute, I knew I couldn't stop pushing because it was so uncomfortable, I just had to get her out. So I told the doctor that I didn't want to stop and I pushed so hard, that all of a sudden, as my husband heard a rip, out shot my daughter with such gusto that the doctor about dropped her from the surprise. Not only had she shot out like a cannon but she did so facing everyone! Born on St. Patrick's Day! The doctor said that only 3% of women who have babies that come out facing up can deliever without any assistance such as vacuum or forseps. The fact that I had done it, just amazed her. She said that she had no idea that Laya was turned up instead of facing down when she had checked, otherwise she wouldn't have had me keep doing what I was doing. But since I did, she was very proud of me. Laya was born absolutely perfect at 6lbs, and 11 ounces and 20 inches long. She had lots of dark brown wavy hair, and blue eyes. We had to stay in the hospital a little longer because of my blood pressure but we were able to bring her home 3 days later. Afterwards, I had developed a real bad staph infection in my arm from the IV drip while I was in the hospital. I also had a bad UTI as well but both those cleared up a couple of weeks later. We are so in love with our little one. She is absolutely amazing and everyday gets more and more beautiful. She was definitely worth the wait and pain! I would do it again in a heartbeat!!!!!
