Colton-Thomas`s birthstory
Okay, well as most of you know, I was on bedrest for 3 month b/c of bleeding and contractions and in and out of the hospital a few times with complications from placent previa. So we scheduled a c-section for September 16th. On the 15th I had bleeding the in morning and had to go into my OB`s office for NST and the baby looked great. My doc sent me home to have a nice quiet night and get some rest before my c-section the next day. Well, later that night I had more bleeding and it didn`t stop. My doctor had me go to L&D to be monitored over night until my surgery just to be safe. I get there and start having contractions and am dialated 2-3cm. They gave me IV fluids for 1 hour and said that if that didn`t help we would do the c-section then! So we called our parents and had them on standby for a possible early delivery! After 1 hour on fluids the contractions seemed to lighten up so my doctor decided to continue the monitoring through the night and stick with our orignial plan which was a 7am amnio and 10am c-section. I had contractions through the night and go NO sleep of course. They checked me in the morning and I was dialated to 4 and considered to be in active labor! I did have the amnio (not that bad!) and the results came back that his lungs were immature. I guess they want a level of 55 and his was only 20. Which was weird b/c I did get the steroids to mature his lungs at 26 weeks and I was 37 weeks and 5 days GA at the time. Usually they don`t go through with a c-section with immature lungs, but since I was in active labor they decided to do it anyways--very scary, I was crying walking into the operating room. The c-section went great, no complications, I didn`t have any problems with the spinal or any of the medications. They started the surgery at 8:57am and he was born at 9:02am! Very quick! They had all the NICU people there since his lungs were immature, but he only needed a quick shot of oxygen and he was breathing fine! And I felt fine after that! :) I was in recovery for about an hour and we were in the hospital for 3 days. He was a little jaundice and lost a little more than the normal 10% of his birth weight, so we did have to start supplementing. But he just had his doctor`s check up and he has gained weight and his jaundice looks much better! All in all I feel pretty good too and have had a fairly easy recovery from the c-section.
Thanks to all you ladies for your advice and friendship throughout this pregnancy. I have learned so much from you all and your company got me through 3 months of bedrest! But it is all worth it, he is more than I could have ever imagined!! Keep in touch ladies!! :)
