Birth Story:
Hey Everyone! Well my time officially came and I have to say it wasn't that bad. If you read my last blog I was having some cramps on Friday night, went to the hospital, and was sent home.. Well, Saturday morning came, I wrote the blog, and continued having cramps. I tried to take a bath but it didn't help. My husband was convinced that this was it but I wasn't. Everyone had told me that when your in real labor "YOU"LL KNOW" and I wasn't that confident. We ended up watching a movie and the cramping continued. I could feel the cramp start and sort of finish but I couldn't really time it well. I decided to call my Dr who had no idea I even went to the hospital the night before. He told me to call him back when I was ready and he'd call the hospital. I still wasn't sure if I was going to call (I had an appt. to be induced on Monday night). Finally I decided that I was going to call and if it wasn't labor that I would make them give me something to STOP the cramps. When we got there the Dr working examed me. I was already 5 cm dialated and 100% effaced. So, it was real labor after all (and I didn't "know"). After that they asked if I wanted an epidural, I said YES. They first gave me Nubane in my IV. This made me feel drunk (I kind of liked it). Then I got my epidural which I didn't even feel! After a few mins. I was FINE.. I could see when I was having contractions on the machine but couldn't feel them. They came in and broke my water (didn't feel that). The rest of the evening was a big waiting game. My husband, mom, sister, and I were in the room laughing. Every 45 min-hr the Dr would come in and check me to see how far I was dialated. Finally around 11:00 the Dr said I was 10 cm and I'd begin pushing shortly. My Dr got to the hospital fast, came in, the nurses dimmed the lights (my mom and sister left), and they taught me how to push. I even got brave enough to watch the whole thing in a big mirror that they had. I pushed for 53 mins (on and off) and when we saw my baby's head the Dr told me to put my arms out. I actually pulled my baby out!!! THAT WAS WEIRD.. They whole experience was very exciting, surreal, and not as bad as I had expected it it be. The pushing part was work but it wasn't painful. We stayed in the hospital until Tuesday afternoon. We've been home now for a day.. Last night was a little overwhelming but I'm confident that things will fall into place. Now, my new issue is with breast feeding..... ahhhhhh... that's another blog!
