Katie-Lee-Andrews`s birthstory

I started getting increased braxton hicks, cramping and back pain from 36 weeks. I lost my plug on Wednesday 11th June and wasn't sure if it was 'it' and then on the morning of June 12th at 4am my water broke, I woke up with a strange sensation and felt it starting to flow, I jumped up and ran to my ensuite. I called my husband who had already left for work 1.5hrs away and told him to come home. I had a positive test to strep B when I was 8 weeks pregnant but my 36 week test had come back negative, if you have strep b and your water breaks you should go straight to hospital and start antibiotics. When my husband got home we made our way to the hospital, once there we were told to go home and come back in 28 hours if labour hadn't started. All that day I kept active and there was no sign until that night at 8.30 my contractions started 7 minutes apart and then after about 20 min later they were 5 min apart and I was feeling really cold and unwell, an hour later they were 3 min apart and we went to the hospital. I was told when I got there that they suspected an infection because of my broken waters, so they had to get fluid as I was extremely dehydrated and my temp was above 39, so they had to put a drip in each hand and the baby was monitored, it was 10.30 by this stage, they couldn't get the drip in after 10 attempts they finally had me hooked up. I was checked at 1pm and was only at 4cms : ( and was told they would give me something to quicken the dialation after another 2 hours, so at 3am I was checked and was at 6cms, I had to ask for some 'drugs' as I was not offered, I was told I could only have morphene. So they gave me some in my leg. I was then given something that sped up the dialation and at 4.30 I felt the urge to push, I was told not to until I was checked but I couldn't hold so I started pushing, I was checked at 5am and was at 10cm so I could now push. I pushed really hard and was told that her heartbeat was decreasing so I pushed so hard my face was beetroot and I had a 3rd degree tear 'ouch', all the pain was worth it although they had to take her to the nursery to check because of the infection. I spent 5 days in hospital and was told that the infection was in fact strep B and it could have harmed me and my little girl, I was so cranky because I had told them I had a positive test and was still told to go home.... I love my baby girl with all my heart : )

Jack`s birthstory

7 days overdue, went for an ultrasound and found the amniotic fluid was low so induction was scheduled for the following day which was my dads birthday. Went to the hospital the following morning at 7am, waters were broken at 8.30 and pitocyn started straight away. Got my first contraction at 9.30am and then they came hard and strong from then..... Had to have a fetal monitor on all the time to monitor babies heartbeat, with each contraction the monitor was moving and babies heartbeat was hard to track so they decided to tag the babies head with an internal monitor.... The contractions were coming really hard and I wasnt getting any break between them so I requested some drugs!!!! The midwife had to check me first and I was at 7cm... I tried the ball but was so uncomfortable in any position, I was nearly ready to give in and have some drugs when I felt like my body was pushing and could feel the head move down, I told the midwife this and noticed she was getting ready for delivery... I knew now that I needed to push and she checked me again. After pushing for 10 minutes my beautiful baby boy was born, the total labour was only 2.5 hours and I had a 2nd degree tear and needed stiches.... Completely drug free too which I was so proud of.... I love my baby Jack and he was worth all the pain in the world
