Toby-Jean`s birthstory

I started labour at 1.20am, my backup midwife came to check me at 10am I was 3cm and contractions had slowed down. Went to bed to try and rest but was still contracting every 10 mins, after a couple of hours hopped in the bath. When I got out I got Jim to help me put on the TENS machine (highly recommened).
By 4 oclock rang the midwife to let her know I was no longer comfortable at home and was heading into the maternity home. She meet me there, we laboured for a few more hours, by 6.30 she decided to progress the labour by breaking my waters. Once this was done we discovered there was mecomium in the waters. Midwife called an ambulance and I was transfered into Christchurch womans hospital. Arrived there at 8.30pm. Baby`s heart beat was monitored, by this stage I was 8cm. Labour got more intense, after 3 hours of being in transition and not progressing past 8cm my midwife decided I should have an epidural. Labour slowed as did baby`s heart beat. The emergency button was pushed and 11 people entered the room, baby was monitored closer and heart rate rose again. By 2am I was fully dialated with the help of an oxitocin drip. I pushed for an hour but baby didn`t want to come. My midwife decided because of the mecomium and heart rate it was time to get baby out. The obstetricain was called, I was given an episiotomy and Toby was delievered in two pushes (and two big yanks) by forceps at 3.37am. It was a long and dramatic birth but worth everything and I still feel proud that I made it to 8cm with out any drugs.

My Birth story:
I woke at 1.30am and felt a trickle, went to the loo and thought my waters had broken. I noticed that they were brown and suspected that they had miconium in them. Went back to bed. Contractions started at 2 am. Dozed until 6 am when Jim woke. Told him I was in labour. by this stage it was getting uncomfortable to stay lying down during contactions and they were coming closer together. We got up had showers, packet the last few items in my bag. Toby woke and i gave him breakfast. By 7.30am I was groaning through contractions, rang the midwife and arranged for her to meet us at the hospital. We dropped Toby at a friends house and made it to hospital at 8.30am. By this stage my contractions were between 3-5 mins appart and were short and sharp. My midwife checked me and i was 4-5cm ( I was gutted, I thought I had gone to hospital to soon). I hopped into the birthing pool and had a few laughs chatting to the midwife and my husband between contractions. As I got to transition and could feel the baby moving down I got out of the pool. Baby's heart rate dropped and we went back to the room to monitor him. I felt the urge to push and after 14 mins Patrick Nate entred the world at 10.34am.Just 2 hours after we got to hospital so I hadn't gone to early at all lol. He was born flat and need to be resused which took 4 mins but my lovely midwife was so relaxed and reassuring that I never felt worried. It was an amazing birth and so nice to have a good experience after my first birth.
