Aston-Philip-Dow`s birthstory
Oh my god isn`t motherhood amazing!!!
Well my birth couldn`t have been more different to what i had hoped for. i was due to be induced on the evening of the 9th July, but was put off til the morning as his heartbeat was a little fast. So.... at about 7:30 the following morning i was given a membrane sweep and prostin gel to bring on my contractions which came pretty soon! i was moved from my ward to labour ward which then at 9:10 my contractions started, i then had my waters broke for me, and found that my little man had his first poo already! (i put this down to the night before when his heartbeat was really fast). this ment that i could not use the birth pool. Which i really wanted to try, as i originally planned a home birth! my contarctions then came a little more and a litt;e bit stronger, at this point i tried the gas and air, which really helped me. they then wanted to keep a close eye on the babies heart rate so they put a clip on the babies head to monitor him closely! during labour this was attached 3 times, poor litlle thing! as it kept coming off! i then had some pethidine as it was staring to be really uncomfortable.
Next i was given the drip in my hand to make the contractions come faster as i seemed to slow down when dilating, after about 2 hours of this i couldnt take the pain no more i just wanted to die! he was laying back to back and it was really hurting me, i requested for an epidural. after waiting 45 mins for an anethetist to come, it took them an hour to put the epidural in, as i kept moving with my contractions, how do they expect you to lay still when my contractions were coming every 20 seconds and lasting over a minute! after an hour of pain and being held to the bed my my mum and partner it finally started to work.
Here is the best part..... the epidural only numbed me on my left side. they then put some more pain relief in the tubes as it wasnt draing to my right side which they had hoped, this was a stronger dose and the babies heart rate dropped so low, they set off all panic alarms and midwives were everywhere, i remember them puttong masks over my face and the room filled with people. i was then took to theatre where they delivered my son into our lives safe and sound, we first heard his cry at 18;00 the time he was born.
he is the most precious thing in our lives now and so lucky to have him x x x x x
