BIRTH STORY

Through out my pregnancy with my son Charlie i was given around 6 different due dates! They went from the 4th March to the 20th of March! So when i hit 39 weeks and there was no sign of my son i started to get impatient and just wishing that he would make an apperance some time soon! But i had to keep reminding myself that he would show when he wants too and he has just made himself at home!!

My midwife came round to my house on the 25th March 2008 to give me a stretch & sweep to kick start me into labour. As this was my first baby i wasnt sure what she was going to do but she explained to me as she done it. I had to sit on both of my hands in a closed fist position and put my heels together, then she put her gloves on and put some gel on her hands. As she done it, it felt uncomfortable but not painful. And she told me that she is basically sweeping out the membranes to make me go into labour. But that didnt work!! So she came back on the 27th March to give me another stretch and sweep and in case this didnt work she booked me in to my local hospital on the 1st April to be induced! I was preying that this stretch and sweep would work this time around as i didnt want to be medically induced!! But after she left i had one of my naps that i had every day but this time i fell asleep for 3 hours!! When i woke up from my long nap, i was having lots of contractions but they was not regular and were all over the place and i dismissed them as braxton hicks! That night i went to sleep still having these contractions and couldnt sleep properly, i tried all different positions to get myself comfortable. I tried sleeping on my right side, my left side, on my back, with my legs up the walls, with pillows between my legs..EVERYTHING!! But nothing seemed to work!!

The next day on the 28th March i woke up and watched Jeremy Kyle like i did every morning and i was still having these pains, but this time they were alot my regular and around 4-5 minutes apart! I new i was in the early stages of labour and i decided to have a nice bath.. BIG MISTAKE! I had read that in the early stages of labour a bath will the slow the contractions down.. if anything it made my contractions worse! I went back downstairs and tried everything, rocking on all fours and nothing seemed to work. Before long it was 8pm at night and my mum phoned me to make sure i was okay and to tell me my sister has come down from Southend to Harlow because she had a feeling that i was going to go into labour!

At half 9 at night i went into hospital and they told me i was 3cm dilated and i had to stay in hospital now till i have had my baby! I was so excited knowing that my little man was going to be coming into the world at any time! The contractions got worse and i was walking around my room in pain and the nurse who was in the room with me sat me on a gym ball and starting massarging my lower back. In the end i was getting so fustrated and i didnt want people touching me. I was dilating 1cm every hour and they sat me on the bed and examined me and said that they are going to burst my waters because they wasnt going to break any time soon, when they done it it felt horrible, there was this huge gush of water that i couldnt control! The nurse kept telling me to try the gas and air and that she wanted me to have an epidural but i refused all of the drugs because i wanted to be in control of the labour and i didnt want to be drugged up!!

Once i reached 9cm i got this sudden urge to push and the nurses told me not to push on 9cm and to try and wait till i reached 10cm!! When they said they can see the top of his head they told me to push and within a few minutes my gorgeous little man was born at 6.23 AM weighing 8lbs 13oz !

The best day of my life!!
