Ruben was born on October 18^th 1999. I believe it was a Tuesday. Early that morning when labor started I remember I couldn’t sleep all that night and was really excited. My mom, sister, and brothers were all awake too and everyone kept feeling my stomach. It would get really hard as hard as a basketball and then be normal again. My mom insisted on taking me to the hospital sure that I was about to have Ruben. I knew that it wasn’t time but at midnight my mom, sister, and I all load into the car and head to the hospital. My brothers and grandma stayed behind to watch my niece Destiny who was 2 at the time. Well we get there and they sent me home after 3 hours. I was dilated to a 2 but I was still in the early stages of labor. I knew it wasn’t time because I didn’t feel any pain just the tightness of the contractions. So we get home and I sleep till 9am. When I wake up I start laughing because now I know I am in labor. I can feel cramp like pain but I can manage it. I decided to get into the shower before going back to the hospital… bad decision! I am in the shower and the pain becomes really intense… after getting out of the shower I remember not being able to pull on my underwear due the pain so my sister has to help me. Boy I wish I could see that scene, me crouched down in the corner crying and Melody trying to keep me calm well getting me dressed. I think up to this point I had no idea of what was really going to happen during labor. The pain was so overwhelming that I panicked; I kept saying I can’t do this!!! I totally felt like I was on a roller coaster (I am so afraid of them I even have nightmares about being on one) and I was at the top looking down… scared out of my mind. The ride over to the hospital was the worst ever! It was my mom driving, me in the passanger seat, my sister and brothers in the back and I could actually feel every bump and turn all the way there! It was 20 mins of intentes pain. The thing that really made me mad was that everyone else in the car was laughing and talking and I was in so much pain I could not share in their excitement... Well, when I finally got to the hospital the doctor had me go into a little room where he checked my cervix and said I was dilated to a 7. My mom and sister were so excited and they started saying you are almost there! The doctor asked me if I wanted an epidural and I immediately said yes! Both my mom and sister protested and said I could do it naturally but neither one of them were in as much pain as I was in. The doctor saw how upsetting they were making me and he informed them that if they didn’t step back they were going to have to leave. So they put me into a big beautiful room where I would deliver and in came this guy who did my epi. A few mins later I was in heaven. I remember my sister kept pinching my legs asking if I could feel it. I would say no and she would laugh. I feel asleep around 12pm and woke up to a lot of people in my room. My mom, grandma, sister, brothers, big Ruben, and his mother were all crammed in there. It was around 4:45pm and the doctor asked everyone to leave so he can check me. I was a 10 and baby was ready to come out! I started pushing at 5:11pm and Ruben was born at 5:13pm J I could feel him come out of me. It was weird; no pain just a lot of pressure. I was instantly in love and till this day that little boy has captured and held onto my heart. Xs n Os!!!
