Reyes`s birthstory

Where should I start?I guess I`ll start a couple days before the actual birth. We were doing our usual rounds of Dr appts.Went to our once a month growth US @ the perinatal`s ofc on Feb 29th,saw the Dr there & he told us that everything was great & we should be good for our induction date of March 11th.The following week we had an NST on Monday & our last OBGYN appt on Tuesday, everything was running on schedule.Baby looked great I felt as good as I could considering I felt like I was about to explode...lol We asked if we can be induced on Monday the 10th of March rather than Tuesday due to some traveling my hubby had to do & could not get out of.Our OBGYN said it would be no problem if we did not mind being at the hospital @ 5am.We of course did not mind since we would get to see our baby boy sooner than expected. So that was that, she checked my cervix but did not tell me how far I was dilated she was in a bit of a hurry.But according to her everything was going well.
Thursday came around it was our last NST appt before our induction date of Monday March 10th @ 5am. It was a typical morning for us, running a tad bit late as always...lol We drop off our 12 yr old @ school have our 4 yr old with us.We hop on the freeway, my hubby usually takes a certain route in the mornings just to please me but this particular morning he was going to take his route,but I opened my mouth & said `oh your going the other way` as I said that he swirved onto the onramp freeway to go my way.He said `I guess it doesnt matter which way we take we have plenty of time.` I agreed with him & felt awful that I made him swirve & take my way. We came to a stop light on the freeway (control traffic light,u know two cars per green) when out of nowhere we hear tires screeching, I look thru my side view mirror & see a lil hunday headed straight for us,so I braced myself for what I thought would be a big jolt.But it wasnt as big as I thought it would be.We all jerked forward a bit. My hubby & I checked our 4 yr old she was fine,I got off just to give her a quick once over she was just a bit rattled.My hubby talked to the poor guy that hit us,It looked like he was having a heck of a morning. Poor guy had just bought his car,it wasnt even a month old.His whole front end was a mess.Our lil escape held its own with some minor bumper and muffler damage,but still driveable.After exchanging info we were back on our way to our appt.About 4 miles into our ride I felt some minor pain in my lower abdomen.I figured it was just the scare of the jolt or maybe just another braxton hick.I didnt want to make a big fuss over it, I could tell my hubby was upset that we just had a fender bender & I knew he was thinking if only I would of just kept my mouth shut.So I kept it to myself & figured if there was anything wrong it would most likely register when I have my NST done. My hubby drops me off & leaves to get some errands done.I woddle my way up to L&D get my US to have my fluid checked.It was perfect.Sat down,strapped in & started my NST when my lil ones heartrate skyrockets.The nurse comes in & says `oh my he`s a bit tachycardic today` I let her know if being in a minor fender bender would have anything to do with it? She said oh yes that would have lots to do with it, lets call your doctor & let her know.So after placing a call to my OBGYN it was decided that I would be held for 4 hrs in observation. I felt awful my hubby had to be somewhere,I had no one to pick up our 12 yr old & he would have to take our 4 yr old to the sitter.It was turning out to be a crazy morning for us.What else could go wrong???Well just as I thought that I started contracting. What would of been 4 hrs observation turned into 8 hrs observation.I was moved into a L&D room.Hubby had to leave,Luckily family came thru & picked up our girls.I just prayed that I wouldnt deliver without hubby being there.I got to the hospital @ 8:30am it was now 8 hrs later & still contracting.No change,they decided to keep me on 24hr observation.Gave me pain meds for the contractions which by the way were all over the place.Come Friday morning hubby came back from his trip contractions were going strong I dilated 1cm further but no baby yet.My doc decided to start me on antibiotics for B strep & the epidural to help with the contractions this was 1030am Friday. She was going to come in to see me & if there was no progress she was going to manually break my water @ about 2.The anesthesialogist came in hooked me up and I no longer felt my legs.My contractions were so strong though that I could still feel them.My nurse recommended that I give myself an xtra boost of pain medication but I was afraid to be too numb when it came down to pushing.My doc came in @ about 4 pm to break my water, she said if there was no progress in about 2 hrs she would give me a small dose of pitocin to help me along.My contractions kept coming but there was no progress,the pain was getting stronger the epidural needed refilling.My doc was called & the pitocin was administered,but I guess they forgot to refill the epidural pump bc I could feel it all.My doc came in @ about 9pm & said it was time to see if we can push,so we started to birth process and oh dear god was it a process.I pushed like I had never pushed before.All I kept thinking was dear god give me the strength to just keep pushing when they ask me to and to stop pushing when I have to. My lil one was showing some signs of distress,they werent saying much but I could tell something wasnt right.She performed the episiotomy which hurt like heck...Asked me to push & keep pushing his lil head came out & he had his cord wrapped around his neck,she quickly cut it off,it took him a while to give us some sign of life but eventually he came around.He was still tachycardic from the trip down the canal, guess it was a rough ride.She mentioned that having the cord around his neck like that gave him a sort of bungee cord effect,which would explain why everytime I pushed and felt him come down I would feel him go right back in as soon as I stopped pushing.A strange and painful feeling.He was born Friday March 7th @ 1054pm.We stayed in the hospital until Sunday 3pm.I thank god everything went well & that my lil one is safe in my arms now.So there u have it the birth story of Reyes Jr.He was set to be born on March 17th but do to some complications was going to be helped into the worl onMarch 10th, but bc he likes things his way he decided to come & surprised his family & come on March 7th, 2008.
