Everybody is asleep so I can finally add my birth story! First off, thank you EVERYBODY for all your support! You guys have all made this pregnancy so much more enjoyable with the support of you girls on this site. If you have not already had your babies, I look forward to the continuation with you 'on the other side'!
As a refresher, Kapri was IUGR and very tiny. Perinatologist had told me if she ever fell below the 10th percentile marker, he was going to advise immediate delivery. At my last appointment PRIOR to my LAST appointment on Monday, she was doing well with me on bedrest and was at the 15th percentile weighing in at 4 lb 10 oz. at 35 weeks. I then went in on Monday at 36 weeks and she had fallen to below the 5th percentile, weighing only 4 lb 7 oz. Peri sent me immediately to L&D for delivery. Do not go home and get your bag, do not pass go, do not collect $200.
It all happened so quick. Pitocon drip was started at 5 pm, my water was broken a little bit afterwards. I REALLY wanted to be able to hold off the 7 hours to make it til Patty's Day, but doc said it would not be more than 4 hours after he broke my water. Nurses were so sweet giving me the least amount of pitocin possible the first 3 hours until my doc flipped out! He obviously did not have my same plan and wanted to be asleep by the stroke of midnight. So at about 7:30 pitocin was increased significantly. I wanted to be able to wait as long as possible for my epidural but nurses kept advising me to do it because it was going to go quickly. Little did I know HOW quickly! I was certainly feeling my contractions so finally got my epi about 9:15 when dilated to only a 4 1/2. As much as I dreaded that epi, it was NOTHING! My first epi 9 years ago was awful and I seriously think I kept putting it off because I was so scared of that pain again. This time, it went beautifully! If you are doing the epi and are afraid, DON'T BE! Just let them know you need LOTS of the numbing agent. It seriously went so easily! I did have a hotspot on my right side that they could not get completely numb, though it was not in the least bit painful, but they wanted me to feel nothing so they kept tweaking it for half an hour. At 9:45, they decided to check me again; I was at an 8. Ten minutes later, I was at a 10! The scariest hour of my life began at this point! I passed a very large clot about 4 ounces in size which appeared to be a placental abruption. All emergency staff was called in, NICU brought their equipment, yet I was SO DRUGGED UP from trying to get that hotspot deadened on my right side that I could not feel a thing to be able to push and I DID NOT want the vaccuum!!! I was shaking so badly from the overdose of the epidural as well as sheer fear! I started 'pushing' at 10, Kapri Kalais was delivered at 10:02! She is SO HEALTHY and BEAUTIFUL!!!!!! She weighed 4lb10oz and 18 in long. The thing that is SO AMAZING to me is all of you who still have not delivered, have this healthy little life I am holding in my arms right now, only about 2 pounds or more larger!!!
We were discharged 36 hours later on Wednesday morning, per a standard, normal, and healthy delivery. Though that was another reason I wanted to put delivery off til midnight, so I could get an extra 'night' at the hospital! In the past 5 nights I have gotten a total of 10-12 hours sleep, and I have often wished I could put her back 'in', as she still has her days and nights confused, just like in utero! She literally sleeps ALL DAY LONG, barely awake long enough to eat, and then straight back to sleep. Her day begins around 1 a.m. and she is awake til 7 or 8 a.m. Somehow, I have had this nonstop energy during the day to get so much done that needed to get done before this arrival, so I have not been 'sleeping when baby sleeps'. I am just waiting for it to catch up with me! I am so excited to hear ALL of your stories and still need to go catch up on all I have missed this past week. Love you girls!
