Aubrey-Christene`s birthstory
I hope this turns out ok- I can barely see what I`m typing since I`m in my hospital bed and the screen is super tiny...
First off I want to say how absolutely amazing it is to be a mom. I am head over heels in love with my beautiful daughter and am still tingly inside about being her mom. I have a whole new level of love and admiration for my husband. Seeing him as a father to our daughter and how attentive and in awe he is of her just melts my heart.
On to the good stuff...I went to my doctor appointment for my 38 week check up on Friday, February 27th. I was very excited to see if my body was making any progress and was excited to hear that I was 1 cm dilated. My blood pressure was high again so he sent me over to the triage at the hospital to be monitored for a little while. I was able to get my blood pressure down once I laid down for a while so after a few hours I was able to go home. When the doctor in triage checked me he felt the baby and said `wow, you`ve got a good size baby` ; just what a first time mom wants to hear before she has to deliver this baby from you know where :o) Around 7 pm Friday night I noticed some goo when I wiped and thought it may have been loft over from being checked at the doctor earlier in the day. The next time I used the bathroom I realized it had to be my mucous plug because it definitely wasn`t lube and matched the description online pretty much to a T. I was having some light contractions (but I`ve been having these since week 33) so I took it easy then eventually went to bed. I woke up around 1 am on Saturday the 28th and the contractions were stronger so I started timing them. By 2 am they were coming every five minutes and were getting stronger so I called my doctor and the on call doc said to go in and get checked at the hospital. I took a quick shower and woke up the hubby and about an hour later we arrived. I got hooked up to the machines and my contractions were spiking and her heart rate looked good so they checked me and I was still only 1 cm dilated. I was barely there a half hour and they were telling me I was going home. I was so upset. I was one of the ladies in my week that was ready for this baby to come and here I am having steady contractions every five minutes that were starting to feel a little intense and I`m going home. I even got teary eyed getting in the car on the way home. I wanted my baby so bad. It was a little after 6 am when we were going home so I made hubby get me a bacon egg and cheese biscuit from McD`s on the way home for some comfort food- love those things! So I ate my sandwich and snuggled with my dog in bed and tried to go back to sleep. I did doze off and awoke a few times to hard contractions but was able to sleep until 10:30 or so. My hubby had stayed awake from the time we got home since he had some coffee on the way in to the hospital that morning. He was a little bummed too because his birthday is the 28th of July so he was hoping she would come on the 28th of February. He decided to go up to bed at this point since his coffee wore off so I got comfy in my recliner and was just trying to breathe through my contractions. They were coming anywhere from 6 to 3 minutes apart but I was told not to call or come back unless they were a steady 2 or 3 minutes apart. I was really getting uncomfortable and frustrated at this point. I stole one of my dogs tennis balls and squeezed on it during contractions and it really helped to focus on something else. So about 1 pm I feel this thump (it almost felt as if my daughter kicked me really hard from inside- which she very well may have) and a little trickle. I quickly hopped up because I did not want to ruin my brand new recliner and I waddled my butt to the bathroom. At this point I`m freaking out because I am so surprised and excited that my water broke but I also wasn`t sure what to do. I`m screaming at this point for my husband or my little sister that lives with us to come help me. Bill woke up pretty fast and I told him that my water broke and it was time to go. I had him grab some towels and my little sister helped me get dressed while he put a trash bag and towels down in my car. At this point my contractions hit a whole new level- it was like the most insane diarrhea cramps I had ever felt. It was pretty painful and my husband is driving so fast while there was so much traffic. Every turn and bump sucked in the car. We get to the hospital and once they knew my water broke they moved me back to the monitoring room pretty quick and allowed my husband to register me and get our admittance bracelets. I asked the nurse wheeling me back if since my water broke does that mean they won`t send me home again without a baby and she said yep- your water`s breaking is a definite ticket to a bed. I was soooo excited! I got checked again and this time I was 3 cm dilated. The doctor that had seen me there so many times before (the one that commented I was having a big baby) came in and said `yeah- it`s finally time`. He was always so nice. Bill was doing a great job at this point helping me manage my contractions. He would let me squeeze his hand while I breathed through the pain. Not too much longer and they got me my room and wheeled me upstairs. All I could think about what that epidural! I got my room around 2:45 pm and the nurse quickly got me on an IV and started my antibiotics for the strep B- i couldn`t have my epidural until my antibiotics were done. it was like 4ish when I was able to the epidural. That went pretty smooth. It was a little uncomfortable but was so worth it. I went from no breaks from the pain to being able to sit in my bed and be like `oh, I think I felt that one`. Once I started dilating more I could just feel pressure with the contractions- like you have to poop. My nurse sat me up and put my legs down in the bed and that got me to 9cm real quick. About 10 o`clock I started really feeling the urge to push and I was at a 10 so we started. It was hard at first for me to find my groove and really center my pushes correctly. Let me tell you ladies- don`t be like me and try to worry about pooping on the table- it will only hold you back from pushing correctly and the best thing is toi get them out as fast as possible. Once I found my perfect position it was on. I gave it my all and next thing we knew the doctor was in the room ready for baby. One push I could hear my mom`s voice getting shaky while she was counting for me so i knew I was close cause she could probably see her head so I gave it my all. everyone was giving such great encouragement I just grabbed my inner thighs and pushed like hell. The pressure was insane but next thing you know her head was out. /they made me stop pushing for a second and cleared her airway then it was one more big one and my angel was here. I got her immediately on my chest and couldn`t believe my eyes. I was holding my baby in my arms! My super tough guy husband gave me a kiss with tears in his eyes and we just stared at her. They took her to be weighed and I could not believe how big she was. Daddy stayed with her the whole time while I did the rest of the delivery and got stitched up since I tore (I didn`t even know). My mom stayed with me for this part and I kept telling her I couldn`t believe I was a mom. When they gave her back we let my sister and my mom spend some time with her then I was adimenmt about wanting to breastfeed her asap so everyone gave us our privacy and left. She took right away and has been a great eater. She barely cries and has been amazing so far. I love watching my husband holding her as he just stares at her in awe. I feel like the luckiest women alive. I have a perfect little angel of my own and the most amazing husband ever. Good luck mommies- I hope each & every one of you has an amazing birthing experience!
