Well throughout my whole pregnancy my doctor kept telling me how easy it was going to be to deliver, yadda yadda yadda, well that should have been my first clue that this was NOT going to be easy at all. So my due date was March 3rd. I went to the doctors for my regular appointment the day before and was not dialated at all and maybe 10% effaced. Big bummer if you ask me. But anyways my blood pressure was suddenly high and I was due anyway so he sent me right to the hospital to start cervadil overnight and then be induced in the morning. So off to the hospital we went. The cervadil was a nightmare getting in and once it finally stayed up there it burned and I couldn't get out of bed for an hour. Hello I'm 40 weeks pregnant I have to pee like every 5 seconds. So anyways I suffered through that and was told to eat something good before 10pm because after that I was allowed no food. So my lovely husband went and got Taco Bell. Yeah, what a choice for your last meal right? lol. So overnight we were told to get as much sleep as possible because tomorrow was a big day, so I probably slept a total of 2 hours all night. ugg.. Finally at 5 am they came in and took the cervadil out and I was able to freashen up a bit and take a walk. When I came back I was hooked up to pitocin to start the contractions and also hooked up to antibiotics since I was positive for Beta Strep while pregnant. Anyways so the pitocin is doing its thing and I am getting some good contractions for a few hours and finally I am 2 cm dialated. At about 8:30 my water broke on its own, which is the strangest feeling in the whole world! I swear I heard a pop and felt it all at the same time. All I could think was that I was glad this happend in the hospital bed and not in my bed at home because that was a lot of liquid. Yuck. Anyways so after my water broke the contactions started getting pretty intense so I asked for some pain relief which they gave me in my IV. Those drugs treated me very well and I was able to get a little bit of sleep before waking up in agony begging for the epidural. The nurse checks and I am still only 2 cm! Can you believe it? well they don't give epidurals until at least 4 cm. Trust me I was begging her and telling her just to lie and tell the doctor I was 4, well she didn't listen so I suffered for 5 more hours with more IV pain drugs and finally getting my epidural. Didn't feel the needle or anything I was so loopy from the other drugs. So the epidural kicked in and I was a happy camper. My labor seemed to progress about a centimeter an hour from that point on but the nurse noticed that when I tried to lay on my right side the babies heart beat would drop so I was forced to lay on my left which in turn caused my epidural to only work on my left side. That sucked because I could feel full force contractions on one side and they hurt! The next thing I know the nurse is putting oxygen on my face. They won't tell me exactly why but I had it for most of the labor. So they continue to monitor the heart rate as I keep asking the nurse how many women have come and gone with their babies while I have been here. Yeah there were ladies who got there after me and had their baby before me! How unfair is that! Anyways I can tell the doctor is getting anxious as there is a small part of my cervix that is not softening. I am 9 cm at this point so he says that if I get the urge to push to go ahead and see if we can get past that part of my cervix or help it open. So within the next few contractions I get the urge to push, which by the way I must add feels incredible. Pushing after all the pain actually feels relieving. Anyways the baby is not going anywhere. The doctor is all in there trying to figure out why the baby is stuck. Well surprise he is facing up instead of down causing his head to be stuck inside my pelvic bone. You could literally see a lump where his head was in my pelvis and wasn't going anywhere. I continued to try and push with all that I had to try and get him unstuck but it wasn't working. The doctor called for a c-section and I was prepped.. oh but wait my epidural is completely gone at this point and we can't find the anistegiologist. So here I am still on pitocin full force because the retarded nurse forgot to turn it off. I can't fight the urge to push. That is by far the hardest thing to do. Not pushing is agonizing. So she finally realizes she needs to turn it off and after a few minutes the pain decreases but they still have to find the epidural guy. He finally shows up and I am off to surgery. I slept through it up until the part where I heard my baby cry and they showed him to me. I just remember thinking he looked perfect. I was pretty upset about not having a natural birth especially the part where I didn't get to hold my baby for a few hours after he was born but I guess in the end all that matters is that Baby and Mom are both healthy and safe. Overall I feel like my whole labor experience was pretty crappy but I wouldn't change a thing because both my son and I probably wouldn't be who we are today if things had been different. I can say though that the staff and everyone at the hospital were completely awesome and I couldn't have asked for better people to be there for me.
