Alexander David Sex: boy Born: 09 June, 2011 Age: 1 years & 345 days Birthday in: 20 days Starsign: Gemini Development: See the 23 months page. Biggest achievement so far: Latching onto breast. |
Alexander David has arrived! After an unplanned induction on June 7th and over 34 hours of labor with a real scare at the point of pushing which almost lead to an emergency C-Section we finally have a beautiful little man to call our own. He was born at 12:50 am on June 9th, weighed 7 lbs and was 20.5 inches long. He is doing really well and is a very alert little guy. I can't believe he is finally here! I am a little sore due tot he Stage 4 episiotomy and Alex has a bruised head from the vaccuum the doc used-but no pain no gain right? I ended up having an epidural after enduring 18 hours of labor-but am thankful for not feeling the pain of everything. We are currently still at the hospital and will be here until tomorrow due to being positive for Group B Strep. DH is one proud daddy and he was truly a saving grace during the whole process. He was so supportive and I am so blessed to have such a great husband. We are still recovering and I have a little bit of high blood pressure but it should all regulate soon enough. Oh and Alex is breast feeding quite well so far-we are both still getting the hang of it but have had a couple of really great feedings so far! YAY!
More photos and updates to come once we are home and settled BUT WE DID IT!!!
xoxoxo

Garrett-James`s birthstory
The day started with a wierd back pain when I awoke but I didn`t think much of it. I had a high priority case to get done for work that was 14 miles away so I loaded up DS and took him along with me to work. We got home and ate lunch and then took a nap. I woke from my nap at 12:30 and had some menstural type cramps and had used the bathroom several times throughout the morning. These cramping pains were not too painful and I didn`t give them much thought but after a couple of hours I noticed they were still there and coming in a wave like pattern. I had to be induced with first DS so I was unsure if this was labor or just false labor. I let them go and text my DH to say that I thought I might be in labor but to finish his shift at work and not to worry. I read how to time contractions and was confused because these were coming every 3-5 minutes and lasting from 30-90 seconds each. Thought for sure they would stop anytime. I went about my day with DS playing in the yard and garden and doing some cleaning. DH got home a little after 4:30 and the pains were getting worse but still manageable. After about a half an hour or so I called the doctors office to see what they thought. They said to go on up to L&D to make sure. Over the next hour and a half the pains started to get more intense and were staying steady. DH scrambled to feed DS and make arrangements for him to go to our families house-we notified our parents (both sets live out of town) told them we were heading to the hospital. The pains increased pretty bad during this next bit to the point I couldn`t hardly walk so I layed on the bed while DH finished getting things ready. We arrived at the hospital around 6pm and I had like 5 contractions from the car to the L&D. I got in the room and they started hooking things up and then the nurse checked me and much to our delight I was already dialated to a 7!! I was so relieved that I wasn`t at a 3 or not dialated at all since the pain was getting pretty intense. They called the doc who said `I guess I won`t go ride my horse.` LOL! He came in and checked me and offered to break my waters but I was loosing focus and getting worried about pushing so after a little debate I decided to get an epidural. My water broke about 10 minutes later on its own and I waited the arrival of the anesthesiologist. He finally came and gave me one dose of the epi and I was so relieved-this did however make my contractions less productive so they started the pitocin. Family all arrived and we waited a bit to see how things were progressing--at around 10 the doc checked again and said I was complete and to do a practice push. We did and he said lets do this. It took them a bit to get things set up for the delivery but we started pushing around 10:25 and baby was out by 10:41. This was such a different experience compared to my first son`s 34 hour labor by induction and a 4th degree episiotomy. I had one little tear right at my urethra that required a couple of stitches but nothing too bad. I was able to nurse right away and it was amazing!
So now I am just trying to figure out a routine with two babies. Alex is loving his little brother and gives him kisses but there is definitely an adjustment since they are only 14 months apart. I feel so blessed after taking so long to get pregnant with our first and now we have two beautiful little boys. It is definitely a wonderful life right now (a little exausting but still worth it).
