Ok ladies I'm going to attempt to make this as short and sweet as possible as I'm exhausted and don't know how much time I have until baby needs another boobie LOL. I went into the hospital on Monday, July 7, 2008 at 8am to start a cervical gel insert for induction. The docs told me not to expect to deliver her that day, as the gel is a slower, more natural process of induction than pitocin. I was checked when I arrived and I was 2cm and 75% effaced. They inserted gel at 9:10AM. You have to lay flat for an hour and then do what you want for the next 3 until they check you again. I had irregular contractions. Nothing unbearable. At 1:30PM I was checked again and I was 90% effaced, and 2 possibly 3cm. They did another insert of gel. Wow that one kicked in with some regular contractions every 4 minutes. I was in and out of the jacuuzi to ease the discomfort. They checked me again at 6:30PM and I was 4cm and 100% effaced. They then broke my water. By 7:00PM, the contractions were unbearable and by 7:30PM, I had my epidural. I wasn't sitting still enough or in the exact position, so it took 3 attempts but was so well worth it once I was numb. They checked me again at 9:35PM, and I was 10cm and a +3 station. She said it was time to go and I wouldn't have far to push. Because I was so numb, it took the first 5 contractions of pushing for me to find a position that worked for me. On about the 6th contraction, I finally found that spot to push on and I had her out on the 3rd push. 27 minutes of pushing. Amani Jayde Johnson arrived at 10:01PM at 8 pounds, 1.6 ounces and 20 inches long. No rips, no tears, no stitches, and now no pain afterwards. MUCH easier than my son's labor and birth!
