Lyla-Ann-Somero`s birthstory
Well Lyla and I have had a rough go at things to say the least.
I went into labor on Thursday June 25th shortly after a membrane sweep at my doctors office.. Soon contractions were eight minutes apart and I had to breathe through them..
This lasted until Monday evening, when the contractions FINALLY made it to 3-4 minutes apart..
DH and I arrived at the hospital and I was only 2cm and 80% but the doctor admitted me anyway because I had high BP and the baby was experiencing an extremely high heart rate for hours. After 12 hours in the hospital with contractions 2 minutes apart that were very painful I made it to 4cm and the doctor broke my water. This was when the shit hit the fan. Immediated after I started bleeding vaginally and the babies HR was dropping with every contraction. For fear that she was in serious distress my doctor decided to do a C-Section just a few hours later.. At 4pm Lyla Ann was born.
My husband and the baby were waiting for me in recovery when the doctor noticed the babys left lung collapsed due to a Pnuemo Thorax, a small tear in the lung wall trapping oxygen where it doesnt belong.. She immediately needed a tube inserted through her chest to relieve the Pneumo and reinflate the lung.
This alone meant a heafty NICU stay and a long recovery but unfortunately this isn`t all.
After the longest day of my life I woke up this morning to the Neonatologist saying she had just done it again, a Pneumo Thorax in the right lung this time. Finally when we thought she was out of the woods and recovering from her second surgical procedure in 24 hours she crashed. She has what they are now realizing is a lung disease where she hasnt produced enough surfactant before birth to prepare her to breathe on her own. She is expected to fully recover from this disease but again it extends her NICU stay even longer.
The worst part is I have yet to hold my baby. They said she is in too muc distress to be stimulated right now, it could possibly cause another lung failure. She is sedaded and will be for quite some time until she is strong enough to breath on her own and they can take out her intubator.. I am not allowed to touch her until her chest tubes are removed and that could still be a very long time..
This has been a tough road, and we cant wait to take home our beautiful baby girl when shes ready..
