Thursday morning and I thought something might be up because was having quite a lot of muscus discarge (sorry if this is too much information!!!), checked with midwife and she seemed to think I was ok. Went out, then came back and rested around 1pm and noticed quite a lot of repeating period type pain that was getting closer together but not consistently 5-10 minutes appart, was still having quite a bit of mucus discharge, but wasn\'t till around 3pm that there was any blood in it. Rang midwife again and as we already were meeting at the delivery suite at 4.30 for an appointment, decided to keep to that appointment and she would assess me then. Rang Justin to let him know that I might possibly be in labour and that he should probably head home soon. We arrived at our appointment, and I was still having medium period type pains and a few blood streaks in discharge. Midwife said that yes I probably was in labour, and after examination was 4-5cm dilated. Got into my comfy cotton nighty, got all the sensors put on my tum, and then just watched the scans for a while. Pediatric doctors suggested I have steroid injection for babies lungs since I was only just 34 weeks. Contractions got a little bit stronger over the next hour or so, but really not too bad. At next examination, I was at 8 cm and had to decide if I wanted an epidural or not - midwife said she didn\'t think I really needed it - but I decided to try it anyway, knowing that it would be a good way to top up pain relief later. They came, they epiduraled and the pains went away, it was lovely. At some point my midwife broke my first lot of waters, and I was told there was quite a bit of fluid. At 10 cm dilated I was feeling contractions again, and started to push on each contraction, although didn\'t feel a big urge to do so at first. I don\'t think I was very good at it. Seemed to be getting better at the pushes finally after an hour or so, and although they hurt a bit, I was concentrating so hard on pushing through them, they weren\'t too bad. But then the boys decided to lay on some strange angle and then the pain got really bad in my back! In fact, the pain between contractions was worse by far than any contraction so far, and after the pain began to get unmanageable between contractions, they sent for more drugs and the specialist! Hooray!!! Yay for drugs, and they gave me heaps! I could hardly move my legs, and they got out those stunning stirrup things. The specialist was there (in fact there were 6 medical staff in the room now), and he managed to do an episiotomy, and forcep both the boys out while I concentrated on not being pulled off the table! LOL! Between babies, the specialist broke my 2nd lot of waters, there was a huge splash with people jumping out of the way and grabbing towels (very dramatic... and funny!!). One after the other, I got a slimy baby put on my chest, and then eventually justin went with them down to special care. Then my lovely midwife cleaned me up, made me a cup of tea and toast, and then I was put to bed (I was given the option of going to visit the babies but was too tired and I knew that Justin had been with them and that they were fine). Both boys arrived a few minutes either side of 2am. I was at hospital for 5 nights learning to express milk, doing cares for babies and finally searching out a double electric breast pump so I could go home. I now start visiting the boys at the hospital with expressed milk. After another few weeks they should be able to come home. No big dramas except that they are little and still need a bit of fattening up, etc. A bit of jaundice so far, but they are doing well!
