Oakley-Bridgeman`s birthstory

Well it all started the monday the 17th when i started to have a few twinges nothing major but enough for me to think ok something is going on so i spent the whole day under the watchful eye of my friends.

Then on the Monday night they started to get stronger and stronger and by 1am they were sitting at 10 mins apart till about 6am on the tuesday when my husband Michael got up to go to work! the 1st thing i said was were the hell do you think you are going! i have been up all night. So i then got into a panic and called my mum cause my phone was broken so i found out the hard way not to get into a panic cause my labour nearly stopped, the contractions went from 10 mins apart to about 1 every few hours all over a phone and the idea of being left to bring on labour. Of course my DH would never leave me just to get on with it but i had it in my head that that is what was going to happen, so after it was all sorted out and DH stayed and home and my friend bought me down a spare phone i settled in for the day of labour. The contractions had subsided by then cause of the morning thing so it was into the bath with some clary sage to get things kick started again and man did that work the contractions started coming more regular then but they were still about every hour, i tried to get some sleep but man it was impossible the only way i could get comfy was standing up or sitting up straight so in the bath again! i got the contrations down to every 4mins by 8:30pm on tuesday night cause i did they only thing left i could think of and went for a massive walk around a massive field (passing my midwife on the way who gave me the knowing look of good luck) so we went to the hospital thinking oh yeh here we go only to be told " you are far to smiley so i think you have a long way to go" lol i had been managing the contrations at home through breathing so when they checked she was right i was only 2cm!

So back at home and yes you guessed it back in the bath (think it was the cleanest day of my life). So by midnight i was nearly ready to give in cause i had been at it for 23 hours and was getting a bit fed up so i thought i need some sleep NOT A HOPE! my wonderful DH tried everything for me from pain killers (whats that all about on take some paracetamole that helps NOT) so i jumped in the bath again cause when DH phoned the m/w unit thats what they said to do this was at about 1.30pm so in i went again and man that is the most uncomfy bath i have ever had so an hour later i got out and my phone rang just as i was having a contration when the m/w turns to my dh and says "she sounds like she is in a lot of pain do you not think you should bring her in" his blood was boiling at this comment cause not 2 hours ago he was told to put me in a bath and give me pain killers. So off to the hospital again!

By the time i got to the hospital it was 3am and man is that road bumpy between my house and the hospital i felt every bump! and that is when the fun started, i got 1 shot of pain killers so i could get some sleep cause it had now been 26 hours i managed to get some rest so long as every contration i sat up or i felt really sick (not fun) at 5am the m/w ran the water pool for me cause i really wanted a water birth and i jumped in it was amazing i spent the next few hours just chilling in a nice warm bath just letting the contrations wash over me, i kept being offered pain relief or gas and air but i was so chilled out i just said no i can do this by myself. So after alot of chilling in the bath we had hit the 30 hour mark and things picked up 7am Chris Moyles playing on the radio (really must ring him and say thanks) and the contrations changed to oh my good god, but still no pain relief just breathing, my water broke in the pool about 20 mins before Oakley arrived and apparently they were green which i never even noticed but my DH had a little panic on cause we had been told if they were green we would have to go to another hospital cause the place we were at was m/w run and they don't have any docs to hand, but the trainee midwife ran and got my main midwife (only let the trainee in cause it was her last birth before she qualified) and she said its fine its far to close now to do anything so i asked her hoe many more big pushes till he is out and she told me 6 more pushes so i thought ok here we go 1 massive push 2 massive pushes and OH DEAR GOD WHAT IS THAT, it was his head he was half out! the m/w looked at me and smiled and said "i lied but you were being to controlling, you are controlling your contrations just go with it" tell you what that is the most strangest feeling in the world being in the water with Oakleys head out and i could feeling him turning inside of me i could feel his legs and shoulders moving and his head moving at the other side! DH said it was like something out of the exercist he will never forget Oakley turning to come out. Then 1 final massive push at 1046 and my wee man made his entrance into this world, and man he did it with style. He got handed to me and just looked at me as if to say hi mum whats up? i have never been so proud in my life he is amazing and i have never felt such love.
