Sabah Charlotte Fox Sex: girl Born: 29 October, 2007 Age: 0 years & 352 days Birthday in: 13 days Starsign: Scorpio Development: See the 11 months page. Biggest achievement so far: has learnt to crawl and cruise around furniture and was a brave little soldier whilst her first six teeth made their way through her gums. Also has learnt to wave bye-bye and clap. |
Saturday 27th my waters broke at around 10.30pm. Went to hospital to get checked out, was only 1cm dialated and felt no contractions so was sent home until the next morning. Was then admitted at 11.30 Sunday morning and was only about 1 3/4 cm, by this time I was experiencing some pain in my back radiating round to the front coming every 10 minutes. Was rechecked at 3pm by which time contractions were every 5 minutes, was only 2 cms and discovered that only my hind waters had ruptured so the midwife sweeped the membranes also baby's head wasn't flexed properly. Contractions got a lot stronger from then, they continued to be 4-5 minutes apart, but the pains in my lower back were bad. Was using entonox regurarly at this point and had had 2 baths to help. Also was trying to walk about to get the baby's head to flex properly. The doctors planned to check me at midnight and if no progress then I was to have a pessary. So at midnight I was checked, was only 2 1/2cms but contractions were every 3 minutes and the midwife wasn't happy to give the pessary, she was worried it would overstimulate the cervix!!! So I carried on with entonox, at 2am I had another bath and the midwife realised that the baby was lying against my back, hence why I had sooo much back pain. At 3am I had an injection of omnipom which didn't touch the pain. Was rechecked at 4am annd was only at 3cm, so the decision was made to induce me at 7am. Was moved to delivery suite at 7am and was started on Oxytocin drip, was having constant feotal monitoring so couldn't get out of bed which I found really frustrating. At 10.30am the doctor ruptured my fore-waters and things started to pick up pace finally. At midday I was 7 cm and was commenced on a remifentanyl PCA which really helped the pain, finally dialated to 10cm at 13.30 and started to push and after 1hour 28 minutes and the threat of an emergency section, my beautiful daughter was born "face to pubes" at 14.58. Daddy was a star throughout, I couldn't have done it without him, he cut the cord, and kept me motivated. I had a secondary degree tear which has been stitched.
We were released from hospital 2 days later (31st October), it was so nice to be home with my daughter, unfortunately this was short lived as the next morning the midwife came to check on us and Sabah had become very jaundiced and had lost 15%? of her weight (dropped to 6lb 6.5oz). So we were taken into the children's unit for phototherapy. The Dr was unsure if her birth weight was correct in the first instance as she showed no signs of dehydration, her bloods were normal and she was feeding well. She had 3 days under the lights, then we were discharged for 1 day before she rebounded back in again (her levels went straight back up again!!), so another 3 days under the lights and thankfully we were finally discharged on 7th November.
There is also a query over her original birth length of 18.5 inches, she was measured again at 10 days old and had "grown" 5.5cms!!!

Phototherapy in the hospital
Since then she has been doing great, at 3 months she is still breastfeeding, she is up to 14lb 1oz and has hit all the developmental milestones. She is a very placid baby, sleeping 8-9 hours at night now. She has colic and reflux which is treated with gaviscon sachets and we attend baby massage classes weekly. She has already been away for her first holiday to England and we are planning another trip to the South of Ireland at the end of this month where she will experience her first swimming pool.
Now that Sabah is 5 months old, I felt it was time to update again. She sleeps for 10-12 hours most nights, and is still exclusively breastfeeding. She has developed so much over the past few months. She is now 66cms long and weighs 15lbs 11oz. She is to be weighed again this week as she has slowed down in her weight gain over the past month. She has started weaning and has quite a varied diet - apple, banana, pear, petit filous, rice pudding, baby rice, carrot, butternut squash, sweet potato, broccoli, avocado, parsnip. Since starting food her reflux seems to have improved, she only has her medication 1-2 times a week instead of every day. She is starting to teethe now, and loves standing up and sitting, she's not keen on lying down anymore as she is very inquisitive and like to see what is going on around her. Her favourite toys are her hexapus, giraffe ring rattle and v-tech alfie. She loves to have a book read to her and is a total square eyes - favourite programme is In the Night Garden and My Friend Tigger and Pooh. Her favourite songs are "Row, row, row the boat", The Grand Old Duke of York" and "If your happy and you know it". She enjoys going out for walk in her pram or in the sling, shopping, forests etc, and goes swimming on a weekly basis now and she loves it.

Since my last installment, Sabah has developed a lot. She is now 8 months old. Her personality is really shining through now. She is incredibily inquisitive and nosey, she has an obsession with our cats, and squeals with delight when she sees them. She is sitting unaided and is steady as a rock, she also can roll from front to back and visa versa easily. When I sit her down now she automatically throws herself forward onto her tummy so she can try to crawl. Weaning is going well, she is on lumpy textures now and has a really varied diet which includes all fruits (except strawberries as they flair her ezcema), all vegetables, pasta, couscous, curry, pancakes, crumpets, lentils, baked beans, natural yoghurt, eggs (boiled, poached and scrambled), cheese, ricecakes, fish, chicken and red meat. She also is having the occasional bottle of formula now but is predominately breastfed. She has 3 solid meals a day now and has really cut down on her milk intake. She has a new favourite toy.. osama the cuddly orangutan which she got when she went to Harrods in London at the start of June. She went on her first plane then and she didn't cry at all. She has got over her first cold and chest infection- she went off her food and needed antibiotics (which gave her diarrhoea), but is now back to her normal self.

Sabah and I at Baby1's house...................................Sabah 8 months old.
Sabah is now 11 months old and is growing up far too quick. She cruises around the furniture with ease, and can climb stairs quickly, she is eating all manner of things now, drinking juice and milk from a sippy cup and she continues to breastfeed even though i'm back working full-time. She now has 6 teeth (2 bottom and 4 top). She waves "hello" and "bye" on command, points at things and gets extremely animated when any of our cats comes into view, she likes to crawl around the house after them and loves stroking them, she is very gentle. She still enjoys books so we got her membership to our local library service so she has access to loads of books now. She has been swimming lots over the past couple of months and she really seems to enjoy it. She gets very excited when she catches sight of the pool and has even started swimming lessons. Because of this we have booked the local paddling pool for her first birthday party for 26th October. So far she has adapted very well with me being back at work, her daddy and granny have also coped with our childminding needs. She is a very social child who loves to be included in conversations, giggles lots and babbles all day long, she is a very good natured child, who only really gets upset if she is unwell/teething.
