Freya-Amelie`s birthstory

I had a home birth all planned and a wonderful midwife to support us through. The pool was here and we were all prepared a good 2 weeks before due date. I had some ultra sounds done due to a low lying placenta but we were all hoping it was going to move up as my uterus expanded. Alas on the 17th of january we had our 38 week ultrasound and the placenta was not only low lying but it was actually blocking the path for my baby to drop into the birth canal. The sonographer told us it was unlikely for me to have a normal birth. I was devastated! But I was still hoping my obstretician would say something different at our appointment an hour later.
Well, he didn`t. He wanted to fit me in for a c-section that very afternoon. My head was spinning and I begged to get atleast a night to get used to the idea. So I was booked in for the following morning.
We had to wait around for hours until I was finally prepared to go into the theatre.
I was suprised to find about 12 people in there being busy with something. The anesthesisist came and told me to sit up so he could put the epidural in. Oh my god did it hurt! I am no cry baby but the prep burned like I had rolled in a beehive. From then on I felt so scared. I was worried I would feel them cutting me. An irrational fear but ut was very real. Lying there on the operation table I could feel my body go all like a limp and I could not feel anything up to my chest. But you can still feel pressure. Weird.
My partner Pedro sat with me at the head holding my hand as I was being preppped for insition. It all went quite fast. In less than half an hour I had my baby on my chest. She came out all blue and growling like a little tiger cub. She had fluid in her lungs so they had to take her away and give her oxygen and get her to start going pink. Pedro sat with her as the staff attended to her and I missed her already. But I could see her still. She was beautiful. A full head of curly dark hair, dainty nose and mouth and long feet just like her dad. She had her toes spread like fingers. I was relieved she was ok and forgot that they were stitching me back up in that moment. A few hours later we were back in our private room. I felkt tired but very happy to have my little girl all pretty and pink in my arms. My partner was so relieved as he found it very frightening. I think he saw more than he wanted of the op. It was an experience so far removed from what we hoped for but we are all ok now. Freya is a diving little angel baby. She does not cry and lets us sleep most of the night as she only wakes once for food. We are very lucky and so happy it is all over and that it went as well as it did. I am still sore but I am sure I will be as good as new in a few more weeks.
