Kenzie-Rose-Severin`s birthstory
I was scheduled to be induced since dr thought baby was going to be a big baby since I always measured 2 weeks bigger in my uterus. So I went to the hospital to be induced at 7:30 am Dec 10. I was already dilated to a 4 when we got there so my OB broke my bag of water. Gross feeling by the way! minutes later I was in bad contractions with the pitocin barely on. I had the most painful back contractions that would not subside no matter what position I tried to get in to. I didn`t want to have the epidural until I was 6cm dilated because I had read that it raises your chances of a c-section if you get the epidural too early. The nurse had said that the anesthesiologist was in doing a c-section anyway and wouldn`t be ready for another hour.
So what felt like eternity with every painful contraction, I waited. I was finally begging for one! I ended up getting it and it wasn`t bad at all. Didn`t even hurt, I was just scared and very nervous. After it kicked in I was in heaven. No more back pain! So I sailed through my contractions with no problem. As a matter of fact, the only way I knew I was having them was I felt water trickle out from it being popped earlier. After about 45 minutes I felt bum pressure and the nurse checked me and said I was a 10 already.
So I started pushing. I guess I wasn`t doing too well because the nurse asked if I wanted to have a mirror so I could concentrate on where I was pushing. Well my mother and mother-in-law were in the room helping me so they got to see it all too. how embarrassing! The female anatomy isn`t too impressive, especially if I haven`t been able to trim up down there for months!
the pushing became easier and I saw the head. she had very black hair! She was showing through my birth canal so I felt her hair and it was so soft. Time came to stop pushing but she was movign down and out on her own and the dr was not in the room yet so we had to page her multiple times. I was so scared I was going to have the baby without my OB that has been there for me throughout this whole endeavor. finally she came in while the baby`s head was already coming out.
The OB said to give a little grunt push so I did and out came her head and shoulder then I gave another grunt and the rest of her came out and she was placed on my stomach. she was so beautiful. all covered in guck and goop she was still beautiful. I grabbed her hand and kissed her. The new grandmothers were crying and my husband was too. We were all sobbing! Kenzie had her eyes open and looking at us. Daddy cut the umbilical cord and blood splattered everywhere! The nurse came to get her to clean her up and to get her breathing better because she was breathing a little too fast for what she should have been.
After all of that I only tore inside that required one stitch. I was amazed! I was so scared that I was going to watch myself tear in the mirror. Watching the placenta come out was really quite neat. My mom who has a very queasy stomach actually wanted to take a picture.
The baby was taken to the nursery while I was attended to and everyone went to go see her. I had minutes by myself as I relaxed and was able to order some lunch and eat it.
The baby came home with us and is doing great. She is a bit jaundiced and has to be checked Monday. But everything else is perfect. I am not in very much pain at all except for some soreness.
I would do it all over again in an instant!
